The upcoming BBC series, “Penguins – Spy in the Huddle”, will never leave you questioning the extraordinary ability of animals to feel emotions and grieve the loss of their loved ones again. The video is a clip from the series depicting a female emperor penguin mourning the loss of her offspring. You can hear her cries of desperation, and the grief she experiences is palpable and not unlike that of human beings. The mourning mother is inconsolable as she holds her deceased baby close to her in the bitter cold.

The series was filmed in Antarctica and will air on BBC on February 11, 2014. Grab your tissues, folks. This one is a tear jerker.

If you’re mourning Sudan the rhino, go vegan

Criticize veganism, but don’t discredit it
