Beware San Fran: Poisonous Meatballs Placed Around City to Kill Pets
San Francisco pet owners better be on alert when they walk their pets because the police department has announced someone is placing poisonous meatballs around town to kill animals who eat them — again.
“These were incredibly well-hidden,” said Lt. Denise BonGiovanni of the meatballs that were found under stairwells, in-between bushes and other places animals are likely to go into when being walked or playing outside. “They look very similar to the ones found last year.”
In 2013, hundreds of similar looking meatballs were found in San Francisco filled with poison. One of them killed a Dachshund who ate it during a walk.
The killer was never found despite a $5,000 reward being offered for information leading to arrests. Now that 30 more meatballs have been found, the local authorities will examine them to see if in fact they are poisonous, something BonGiovanni says “there’s a high probability” of being true.
Anyone with information regarding this horrible case of animal abuse is encouraged to call the SFPD tip line at (415) 575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411 with “SFPD” in the beginning of the message.
