Ricky Gervais Calls Puppy Deaths A 'Senseless Waste Of Life'
Ricky Gervais, English actor, comedian and activist, is not shy about making his stance on animal cruelty known. The 52 year-old spoke out about a recent British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection (BUAV) investigation that uncovered terrifying acts of animal cruelty at a UK government licensed animal testing center, MSD Animal Health.
The undercover footage taken by BUAV revealed puppies panicking as they were injected with needles before being murdered and dissected. There were several instances where the puppies were little more than four weeks old, which is way too early to be weaned, and still suckling when taken from their mothers, and afterward, the adult mothers were killed. Dogs weren’t the only animals tortured at the facility. The undercover investigator documented 92 beagle puppies, 10 adult nursing female beagles, approximately 15 or more kittens and an unidentifiable number of rabbits, calves and chickens senselessly murdered.
In response to the BUAV investigation, Gervais said, “I support the BUAV in their investigation to expose this kind of cruelty. This senseless waste of life cannot be justified. Please join me in asking for it to end.” The BUAV has launched Our Best Friends campaign aimed at ending the use of these animals in research.
Because there is so much secrecy around animal testing, undercover investigations like the one carried out by the BUAV are vital to keeping our animal friends safe. English author, dog owner and animal lover, Jilly Cooper, said, “It is important that BUAV investigations continue to uncover the horrific reality of animals in laboratories. This senseless, needless suffering is utterly appalling so please take action and join the Our Best Friends campaign.”
