“The Amazing Spider-Man 2” showcases some of Spidey’s newest superpowers: sustainability and an eco-friendly lifestyle.

The efforts put forth on the set of “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” (Starring Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone and Jamie Foxx) was recognized by The Environmental Media Association (EMA) for exceptional environmental awareness and sustainability initiatives.

The EMA is a non-profit organization dedicated to harnessing the power of the entertainment industry and the media to educate the global public on environmental issues and motivate sustainable lifestyles.

Hannah Minghella, President of Production, of Sony Pictures says “‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ in the most eco-friendly blockbuster in the history of the [Sony] studio”

With initiatives such as partnering up with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to support the habitat of the Giant Panda, and spreading awareness about Earth Hour, it is evident that the Sony Productions team, alongside their Eco-Manager Emellie O’Brien, were more than deserving of the recognition.

In addition to the initiatives, other practices were set in-place such as: rented and reusable sets, water based smokes for special effects, eco-friendly advertisement incorporated into the set as props, reusing makeup textiles, Creating a Twitter account to promote fans awareness and participation (@EcoSpidey),  donating extra food at the end of the every lunch to  local shelters, equivalent to 5,861 meals and eliminating plastic water bottles leading to the conservation of 193,000 bottles. There was even the re-planting of trees in East River Park.

“I admire Sony for putting in the effort in and doing what they can” said Andrew Garfield who plays Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

“The Amazing Spider-Man 2” is the first recipient of the the “Sony Pictures a Greener World” sustainability production end credit, but with Sony’s efforts being so outstanding, we are sure it wont be the last.

“With great power come great responsibility” and we would like to thank everyone involved with this production for using their powers for good, and contributing to an international environmental effort.
