Oarfish, the longest of which can grow to 50 feet long, are incredibly elusive and rarely seen by humans. But thanks to some very lucky kayakers enjoying the waters off Baja, Mexico, we’ve all been given a glimpse of this rare sea serpent.

“During a recent Shedd Adventures trip to Baja, participants witnessed not one, but two rare oarfish in shallow waters,” reads the description on YouTube. “Here’s a video of one of their encounters released jointly with travel partner Un-Cruise Adventures.”
