Oscar-winning actor for the ‘Dallas Buyers Club,’ Matthew McConaughey saved a baby seal’s life while surfing in Malibu last week.
McConaughey was riding the waves when he noticed a group of children poking and prodding a baby seal with a stick, on the beach. The actor swiftly came to the seal’s rescue by telling the children to stop hurting this innocent animal. He then proceeded to give them a very long lecture on the reasons this is unacceptable behavior.
McConaughey explained to the children that the pup was still alive and was not injured. He said that baby seals often rest and sun themselves on the beach, while their mother observes them at a close distance from the water. When they have spent enough time basking in the sun’s rays they will return to the ocean and swim away.
Apparently, after a twenty-minute lecture the children were so eager to escape from McConaughey’s wrath that they fled without even bothering to ask him to pose for a photo.
Fortunately for the seal pup, McConaughey was around to stop the children from hurting, or possibly killing the baby animal. Also, if the children think that McConaughey’s wrath was intense, they may have received a lot worse if the baby’s mother had swam ashore to rescue her pup.
The animals need more people like McConaughey around to teach children right from wrong and that hurting animals is not okay. In fact, he would have his hands full right now if he travelled to Newfoundland, Canada, where thousands of baby seals are being slaughtered everyday in the country’s annual seal hunt.
