After the famous fast food joint Taco Bell started promoting discounted tickets to SeaWorld, one very angry college student started a petition that now has 15,000+ signatures. Taco Bell isn’t exactly known for its animal friendly fare, and now the fast food chain is supporting one of the most abusive franchises in history: SeaWorld.

In case you live under a rock and haven’t seen the popular film “Blackfish”, a documentary that chronicles the abuse of marine mammals at SeaWorld marine parks, let me explain to you why the promotion of SeaWorld can be seen as a moral and ethical dilemma. At the marine parks, killer whales are confined to small, shallow pools, lack social interaction, display whale-to-whale aggression because of their living conditions and are given inadequate medical care. Their lifespans are shortened due to their unnatural environments, and a link has been drawn between the majestic and sensitive creatures’ living conditions and the aggression that is displayed toward their trainers, which has resulted in several injuries and deaths.

In the Change.org petition, the public is asked to avoid eating at Taco Bell until they stop promoting SeaWorld (although we’d recommend never setting foot in there again even after they stop supporting SeaWorld). Lend your voice by signing the petition and educating yourself on the horrors of marine mammal parks.
