Adrian Grenier to Produce Documentary About a Lonely Whale

Entourage star Adrian Grenier will co-produce Joshua Zeman’s newest documentary, 52: The Search for the Loneliest Whale in the World.

“I’m honored to be part of the Worldview and Alldayeveryday team who can see the importance of making films like ’52’ and who will put their muscle behind such a mythic quest,” Grenier said.

The plot summary for 52 says the documentary will “take audiences on a journey to find the forgotten ’52 Hertz Whale.’ Calling out at 52 Hz, a frequency unrecognized by other whales, this mysterious creature is believed to have lived its life in complete solitude, it’s calls forever unanswered by it’s own kind. In our ever-present fascination with these majestic beasts, the tale of ’52’ has prompted an intense reaction amongst our own species, pointing to a greater awareness of human loneliness than ever before.”

Zeman wrote the script himself, with filming scheduled for the fall. The crew will begin with a seven-week expedition to search for the whale in the Pacific Ocean.

“I’m so humbled by the scope of this adventure,” Zeman said. “There is still so much mystery in our oceans and the plight of this Lonely Whale speaks to something very human in all of us; the need to connect and be heard.”

The documentary is scheduled for release next year.
