Celebrities taking vegan pledges has become a part of Hollywood culture, and now tinseltown’s tiny ones are next in line to take on veganism. Author and yogi-to-the-stars Rainbeau Mars started the two week kiddie challenge, which began on Monday and already has 300 ready and willing tiny participants.

The idea to turn the trendy vegan challenge into something children could participate in began when Mars noticed that many of the children at her daughter’s school did not know how to help in the kitchen, a major component of establishing life-long healthy eating patterns. And now celebrity kiddos are joining the two week plant-based pledge.

Johnny Sequoyah, 11 year old star of “Believe” says that she feels better only two days into the cleanse. She said that when “you’re eating only junk food, it makes you really tired” and “whenever I finish a hamburger or doughnut I do feel tired and sometimes in a bad mood after.” Kid rapper Lela Brown, who was a contestant on “America’s Got Talent” has also signed up.

To keep kids interested in healthy cuisine, Mars said, “Keep it simple.” She suggested chia seed pudding and smoothies as two healthy substitutes for the usual fast-food choices. Mars said this cleanse isn’t only about feeling and looking better. She wants the children to understand that avoiding animal products, including “cholesterol, antibiotics and any fear we may be ingesting is good for the planet and good for us all.” We couldn’t agree more!

It’s wonderful to see the connection being made by children that what we ingest has an effect on our health. Let’s hope they are also accepting what they are taught about the positive effects a vegan lifestyle can have on the animals and the planet.
