Alicia Silverstone Hopes You'll Have a 'Kind' July 4th

Fourth of July celebrations often conjure up visions of loud fireworks, meat-laden BBQs, and overindulgence. Vegan actress and author, Alicia Silverstone, penned a blog post on her site, encouraging her readers to take a healthier, more peaceful, and kinder approach to Independence Day.

Titled “A Kind 4th of July,” Silverstone shares her tips for making the 4th “kinder.”

Tip one: A kind, vegan BBQ. Silverstone recommends Field Roast sausages and local veggies on the grill. She also links to some of her favorite summertime BBQ recipes.

Tip two: Enjoy nature. “Instead of camping out near the fireworks, take a trip to a nearby lake or campground and enjoy nature in a serene setting with your family and friends. Bring good food, your guitars, and your best campfire stories! Even better, visit a national park or monument and experience America’s natural beauty,” she writes.

Tip three: Take it easy. Silverstone suggests keeping it “mellow” and watching documentaries on American history at home. If you have pets at home, they’ll probably appreciate you being nearby!
