Fourth of July celebrations often conjure up visions of loud fireworks, meat-laden BBQs, and overindulgence. Vegan actress and author, Alicia Silverstone, penned a blog post on her site, encouraging her readers to take a healthier, more peaceful, and kinder approach to Independence Day.

Titled “A Kind 4th of July,” Silverstone shares her tips for making the 4th “kinder.”

Tip one: A kind, vegan BBQ. Silverstone recommends Field Roast sausages and local veggies on the grill. She also links to some of her favorite summertime BBQ recipes.

Tip two: Enjoy nature. “Instead of camping out near the fireworks, take a trip to a nearby lake or campground and enjoy nature in a serene setting with your family and friends. Bring good food, your guitars, and your best campfire stories! Even better, visit a national park or monument and experience America’s natural beauty,” she writes.

Tip three: Take it easy. Silverstone suggests keeping it “mellow” and watching documentaries on American history at home. If you have pets at home, they’ll probably appreciate you being nearby!

Will you be celebrating July 4th in any of these “kind” ways?
