If you’ve ever wanted a close encounter with a sea turtle, prepare to be jealous.

A diver helped save a sea turtle that got tangled in a fishing line and got a face to face thank you from the animal.

Cameron Dietrich and Colin Sutton were off the coast of Mexico earlier this year spearfishing when Dietrich noticed a sea turtle had gotten caught in one of their fishing lines. He quickly dove in to help the distressed animal and Sutton dove after him to record the whole thing.

Sutton’s footage shows how Dietrich acts quickly to untie the line from the turtle’s front leg. After 27 seconds, he is able to free the animal and backs away. The thankful turtle wasn’t about to let the good deed go unnoticed, though, and circled back towards Dietrich, hovering in front of him close enough for him to hold it for several seconds.

Human fishing gear is, according to the World Wildlife Fund, the biggest threat to the already endangered sea turtles today. It’s no wonder this saved turtle was so thankful!

You can watch the adorable rescue in the video below.

That is super cool except his flipper appears to be injured. He isn’t able to use it. 🙁 I hope he will be okay.
