Alicia Silverstone is standing by her home state of California as it fights against animal testing.

The actress, whose best selling books ‘The Kind Life’ and ‘The Kind Mama’ promote a vegan and cruelty free lifestyle, joined the organization Cruelty Free International’s campaign to end animal testing in the United States.

“We are thrilled to have Alicia Silverstone supporting our US campaign,” explained Cruelty Free International, CEO, Michelle Thew. “She is a wonderful compassionate role model and her support will no doubt assist in getting the topic of animal testing at the forefront of the political agenda.”

In California, the issue has already reached the legislature, which passed SJR 22, the Cruelty Free Cosmetics resolution, with bipartisan support in both the Assembly and the Senate. Introduced by state Senator Marty Block (D-San Diego), SJR 22 urges the United States government to mandate other methods of testing that do not include live animals whenever possible and to come up with reasonable deadlines for stopping the sale of products that have been tested on animals.

“I stand with California and Cruelty Free International in calling for an end to animal testing for cosmetics,” stated Silverstone.

Silverstone joins the likes of Mayim Bialik, Ricky Gervais and Peter Dinklage who already have shown their support for Cruelty Free International and its mission to end animal testing worldwide.
