Things are looking up for Lady, an abandoned elderly Labrador previously known as Ma Kettle, as she just arrived at her new home in style, being flown in on a private jet.

Lady’s tale is a sad one. In 2012, she ended up in an animal shelter after her owner passed away. She was adopted by a family in Sedan, Kansas, but after a few years they brought some puppies home and decided they didn’t want the aging Lab anymore.

She was passed on to a new home in another town, but — not knowing that she had been given away — Lady escaped and made a 30 mile journey to the home of her previous family. Even after this courageous feat, her old family didn’t want her back and she ended up in yet another animal shelter.

Luckily, Lady landed on her feet this time. Her story was passed around various social media outlets, which is where Helen Rich heard her tale of woe. The author, and heiress to the Wrigley’s Gum fortune, was so moved that she decided to offer the senior dog a forever home in which to live out the rest of her days.

On her Facebook page, Rich wrote, “Everyone, please stop worrying. This precious girl is coming to live with me. My assistant is flying to pick her up tomorrow. I’m currently out of town, but my arms will be wrapped around her on Saturday. And she will never be scared or lonely again!”

Rich sent her assistant, Chet Ragsdale, to pick Lady up and fly her home on a private plane. “She going to think she’s gone to heaven,” he said to KWCH news.

This is the kind of story I love! If you are interested in adopting a senior pet or need help with your senior pet, contact Clay’s Heart Senior Pet Foundation. http://claysheart.weebly.com/ Also, if you don’t have a private plane :), they might be able to help with transportation. This is an awesome organization that does amazing work with senior animals.
