James and Suzy Cameron to Open Vegan Restaurant in New Zealand
Last month, Ecorazzi spoke with passionate vegan environmentalist Suzy Amis-Cameron in an exclusive interview and we were very excited to hear about the many inspirational projects she has recently taken on. As she celebrated her second year of vegan living, Amis-Cameron shared that she is working on a series of books about food and the environment. She is also transitioning the school she founded (MUSE School CA) into the nation’s first plant-based school and creating a plant-based diet campaign along with her filmmaker husband, James Cameron. As she continues to help manage her family’s biodynamic farm in Santa Barbara, CA, and crop-producing land holdings in New Zealand, Amis-Cameron also has plans to found her own sustainable fashion line in the near future.
This month, the green power couple announced their plans to open a vegan restaurant at the historic Wairarapa house in New Zealand, a property which the Camerons acquired in 2013. The restaurant will serve fresh, plant-based food seven days a week and will feature many ingredients grown on-site in the Wairarapa house gardens.
The grand opening of the Camerons’ restaurant has not yet been announced, however, consent was granted one week ago to allow necessary structural changes to be made to this historic property and preparation of the grounds and gardens began last month.
Although their family currently resides in California, the Camerons shared that their 24-year-old son Jasper wants to live in New Zealand and make “fabulous cordon bleu food” from some fruits, nuts and vegetables grown through family businesses. Perhaps this new restaurant will give him just that chance.
