Katy Perry to Bring a Lion and Sharks to Halftime Show
Katy Perry will be the center of attention this Sunday at the Super Bowl halftime show but her recent announcement about the performance will have animal rights activists concerned.
“I’m probably the only person in Super Bowl Halftime history that will ever bring both a lion and sharks to the show,” the singer said at a press conference on January 29.
Perry didn’t specify if those are a real lion and real sharks that will share the stage with her during the show but considering that she’s used real animals in her music videos before, it wouldn’t be a surprise. In 2013 Perry used real parrots, tigers, an elephant and a monkey in her ‘Roar’ video, enraging PETA, who came to the animals’ protection.
“Animals used for entertainment endure horrific cruelty and suffer from extreme confinement and violent training methods,” said PETA representative, Merrilee Burke, to the Daily Star at the time. “They often become stressed and anxious when hauled around and forced into unfamiliar or frightening situations.”
With an estimated 73,000 in attendance, bright lights, noise and the sound of Perry, her band and a surprise guest performing, we can safely say that would be a very frightening situation to those animals. Let’s just hope this lion and these sharks are props!
