Collaborating with animal exploiters won’t help animals

Dutch News reports that animal protection organization Dierenbescherming and pet sector organization Dibevo are trying to combat “unhappy” bunnies by teaming up with the pet shops that sell them.

They’re calling it the Happy Rabbit Project, and it’s aptly named with it’s similarities to “happy” meat promotion. As one of the most popular Dutch pets, the projects hopes to literally make bunnies more “happy” by providing education on appropriate rabbit care to the pet stores and garden centres that profit off of their breeding and sale, and ultimately, their unhappiness.

The two sides claim to both have the “health and well-being of animals” in mind in this partnership, but one likely said “after profitability” under their breath. But of course, making customers believe they care is only going to help with sales, we’ve seen that through humane and cruelty-free marketing campaigns already.

And while we agree better education for those looking to bring rabbits into their home is essential, that education includes staying away from the same pet and garden centres who are causing rabbits problems to begin with. Homes for all the lonely and caged rabbits these animal rights group want to help will only make way for more lonely and caged rabbits for their animal exploiter partners to breed and sell. Honest education that has the lives of rabbits in mind has to include fostering, adopting, and changing the lives of the ones already lost to the system. It should also include veganism, and understanding why shopping for any animals hurts all animals.

Veld donates money to farm animals and also serves them

Lest we be confused that their giant V logo stands for anything other than Veld.

Trading beef for beans is not a solution, veganism is

Please do substitute beef for beans, but also have tofu instead of turkey, carrots instead of chicken, and I think you see where I’m going.

Guys, extortion isn’t an effective form of vegan advocacy

Assuming we can extort people into respecting the lives of others makes no sense.
