Her name may not be familiar, but Vera Farmiga is one woman you’ve most likely seen. She recently played a seducer to both Matt Damon and Leonardo DiCaprio in “The Departed” and will be opposite Jude Law in the upcoming drama “Breaking and Entering”. Outside of acting, however, her lifestyle couldn’t be any further away from Hollywood.

Farmiga escapes the lights and stresses of LA by retreating to her sustainable goat farm in Upstate NY. “I like being off the grid, says the actress, and I can’t do Los Angeles. I’ve always been the anti-Barbie. I don’t want to be in a place where almost every woman walks around with puffy lips, little noses and breasts large enough to nourish a small country.”

Farmiga lives with her boyfriend of three years, Renn Hawkey, keyboardist for the band Deadsy. “In another life, I was a shepherdess,” she says. “I like being off the grid. I want to be self-sufficient and live off the land.” How refreshing is that? We’ve heard of people like Elizabeth Hurley and Cameron Diaz expressing a great desire to return to the Earth, but here’s a Hollywood actress actually living the dream; goats and all. I’m sure the paparazzi have their hands full when trying to track this woman!

We’re getting some great tips today from the site, Off-Grid, and would like to pass along a thank you in return. Please check them out for cool info on people making the move to a more sustainable existence and how you can follow.
