Jesse James, the unlikely husband of environmentalist Sandra Bullock, was recently hit with a fine totaling $217,000 for emissions violations on about 50 bikes he built between 1998 and 2005.
James, who is also the host and co-producer of Motorcycle Mania, neglected to install state certified emissions equipment on his bike’s exhaust systems. As a result, the bikes were giving off hydrocarbons at up to 10 times the state limits! The California Air Resources Board did a little digging and slammed James for violating the California Clean-Air Act.
This has got to be slightly embarrassing for Bullock; especially since she and James have supported several environmental causes and even opened up an organic burger jointsince being married. Motorcycles and gas-scooters have more emission issues than SUVs, so it’s great to see California doing everything it can to ensure caps are in place.
We’re prone to think that James has changed his ways since marrying Bullock, but this fine is an expensive reminder of his past. Let’s hope his actions forward don’t prove us wrong.
