Less than a week after receiving the Environmental Citizens Award, Prince Charles is already beginning a campaign to repeat by backing some new initiatives. Yesterday, Charles held a meeting for housebuilders and called on all new homes to be constructed with the environment in mind.
In his speech, given at his Foundation for the Built Environment headquarters, the Prince recognized eleven new developments that had adopted such principals and helped to improve the quality of life for residents and increase energy efficiency. “The schemes on show do represent a starting point, more than anything else, for future improvement right across the industry. The drive for eco-excellence should be a key feature for new home building.”
Of course, Charles understands that people aren’t going to stray too far from traditional design, so he called for less overtly hi-tech or modern designs, and more a focus on building green while still sharing same local story. From the article,
“The Prince called for people to ‘step up to this challenge on all sites for the sake of the future of the economy, landscape, townscape, wider environment and the health and well-being of its inhabitants.'”
