snipshot_b21lb869hrqc.jpgAl Gore is proving himself to be a triple-threat on climate change! From the movies to the Internet and now, music? In what will be an incredible event, Gore is set to announce tomorrow a massive series of concerts, scheduled for July 7th, that will take place all over the world. The goal of such an event? To place the subject of climate change before an audience of nearly 2 billion people! Rock Star!

From the article,

“The event, scheduled for July 7, will feature co-ordinated film, music and television events in seven cities including London, Washington DC, Shanghai, Rio de Janeiro, Cape Town and Kyoto, with major broadcasters and media owners aiming to extend the reach of public awareness of global warming.

It is understood that former US vice-president Al Gore, whose movie An Inconvenient Truth brought climate change to cinema audiences last year, will announce the event tomorrow in London.”

Almost 2.5 million people are expected to become involved in organizing and promoting this concert behemoth, deemed “larger than Live 8 and Live Aid” and promising a line-up of artists unlike the world has ever seen. One person close to event details had this to say,

“The talent involved is just exponentially bigger because the issue itself is bigger. Live Aid was about asking people to stump up money, this is about effecting systemic change. The aim is not just to drive awareness but to get people to take action.”

We can imagine that such actions might include offsetting emissions, supporting environmental initiatives, pushing for greater climate legislation, etc. Sounds like a blast — and I wonder if it has anything to do with Global Cool’s recent concert push announced last week. Since Gore will be in London to announce the full details tomorrow, I can only assume that GC is organizing. Can anyone help me on this?

Anyways, cross off July 7th on the calendar. We’re about to rock out for the Earth. All of us.

This is great news! It’s amazing that people have started to do something about the crisis at hand. I’d love it if Al Gore ran for president in 2008.

I just wondered how will the environment will benefit with these Eco-shows on July 7th? With all the trucks driving the stage equipment to the various venues. Pop stars racking up air miles to get to the stage. The public stuck in traffic queues to get to and from the events. The printing of, posters, tickets and increased manufacture of CD’s to meet increased demand by new fans these events generate. There will be all the hot air made by celebrities telling us what we already know. GREEN SPIZZENERGI LIVE @ The Luminaire – Weds 28 February. 311 Kilburn High Road, London NW6 7JR
