Noel Gallagher is extremly amusing to me — not only because his comments are so brash, but because he offers opinions that are truly honest and reflective of what he believes. He’s the type of person who thinks using fame for works of good is a waste of time. In other words, he’s probably the last person who would save you if you were drowning.
Well, he’s back in the media moaning and bitching once more about celebrity activism This time, his energy is directed at U2’s Bono. “With U2 it’s like play ‘One’, shut the f**k up about Africa. People don’t want to hear about it all the time.” Gallagher believes campaigns like ONE or Rock For Darfur are a waste of time and energy. He had this to say about Live 8’s efforts to reduce third-world debt,
“Correct me if I’m wrong, but are they hoping that one of these guys from the G8 is on a quick 15-minute break at Gleneagles and sees Annie Lennox singing “Sweet Dreams” and thinks, ‘Fuck me, she might have a point there, you know? And Keane doing “Somewhere Only We Know” and some Japanese businessman going, ‘Aw, look at him… we should really fucking drop that debt, you know.’ It’s not going to happen, is it?”
Wow, Noel! You’re right! We should just sit on our asses. If it’s not our problem, why bother to help? Instead of entertaining people and encouraging them to help the less fortunate of the world, lets just follow your example and get high off cocaine, bitch, and question the good deeds of others. You’re an inspiration.
Oh wait, you’re playing this month in a charity concert for children with cancer. If you’re playing by your own rules, I guess what you’re doing won’t make much of a difference for those kids, right? Are you in it for the money, Noel? Surely, you’re not “lowering” yourself down to the level of the people you criticize?
