We braved the crowds at the Natural Living Expo in Anaheim this weekend to chat with our fave green celebrity couple Ed Begley Jr. and Rachelle Carson. We’ve been barely able to keep up with the green carpet walking, electric vehicle unveiling, eco-fashion wearing, solar powered toast making couple the past couple weeks.
Ed’s event calendar has been packed, 95% of which he says is dedicated to saving the planet. He’s definitely doing what he loves “Ever since the 1970’s I’ve been wanting to make a change.â€
Doesn’t look like the sched is going to lighten up either…he told us on Saturday that the show has been renewed for 13 more episodes!
Last time the ‘razz chatted with Ed, he was announcing the new Phoenix Motorcars SUT. He’s waiting on his own SUT from Phoenix. Until then, he’ll keep cruising in his Electric Rav 4, which he powers with the 6 ½ Kilowatts of solar panels on his roof.
We asked him if the sun powers everything in his home, says Ed, “Well it did when I was single.†But now with two businesses under his roof, the car, kids, and a glamorous wife, the solar panels are stretched a little thin. To supplement additional energy use, the Begley’s purchase about $600 a year worth of Green Power from the power company.
Rachelle and Ed were at the Expo giving props to eco-centric beauty line Pangea Organics. Rachelle likes how simple the line is: cleanse, tone and moisturize. Plus, the more she learns about parabens and toxic chemicals in beauty products, the more she loves going au natural with Pangea. Says Rachelle about Pangea’s do-everything-all-at-once facial mask, “It smells horrible, and looks even worse, but it’s all natural and works great.†Plus, the packaging is plantable! Rachelle knows at least 10 women with breast cancer, so she feels good promoting and using products sans nasty chemicals. As she explains, “There’s a reason cancer is on the rise.â€
Rachelle also sees a turn for the better in eco-fashion. The industry is changing from, “the ‘Pacific Northwestern look’ that’s really not me,†to more fashion forward organic garments. Rachelle agrees that organic is the way to go, “Cotton is such a toxic crop, because of the Boll Weevil.â€
As always, we love you Begley’s. Keep up the great green work, and we’ll catch up with you in Hollywood at the next green celeb event.
