Daryl Hannah, Pierce Brosnan, and Martin Sheen are seriously putting on the pressure to get Australian company BHP Billiton to quit California’s shores. They’ve been campaigning against it for a few months now, and just recently, they joined 200 other protesters fighting against the proposed facility.
BHP Billiton plans to build a 14 storey high, 295m long LNG terminal 22.25 kilometres off the coast of Malibu.
The LNG would be transported by ship from gas fields in other parts of the world to the terminal and then piped to the California mainland north of the seaside town famed for its resident celebrities.
Apparently, the terminal’s fate is all up to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. If the terminal is indeed going to be harmful to the environment and will put people and marine animals at risk, we’d be very disappointed in him if he approved it, despite his environmental track record.
