Last October, singer George Michael was arrested after being found slumped in his car under the influence of a myriad of drugs. He pleaded guilty to driving in this condition and was sentenced to 100 hours of community service. In addition, he cannot drive for two years; something easily remedied for a superstar as Michael arrived to start his sentence in a chauffeured limo. First order of business? Some gardening. From the article,
“Michael says, ‘I’m just like everyone else. If you do something stupid, you have to pay the price. I’ve been doing some gardening and really enjoyed it. I’ll do whatever they want me to do. I don’t want any special treatment.’
Michael is currently helping out with the garden of a homeless hostel in London. This pales in comparison to Naomi Campbell — who was sentenced to sanitation duty after throwing a cell phone at a house worker and other nasties. With all these community service details, it certainly seems like the punishment is fitting the person.
