earthlingsoscarposter.jpgJoaquin Phoenix and Moby have contributed to a movie that is sure to stir the heart strings and make you think at the same time. It’s called Earthlings and “is a feature length documentary about humanity’s absolute dependence on animals (for pets, food, clothing, entertainment, and scientific research) but also illustrates our complete disrespect for these so-called “non-human providers.

With an in-depth study into pet stores, puppy mills and animals shelters, as well as factory farms, the leather and fur trades, sports and entertainment industries, and finally the medical and scientific profession, EARTHLINGS uses hidden cameras and never before seen footage to chronicle the day-to-day practices of some of the largest industries in the world, all of which rely entirely on animals for profit.”

Joaquin provides the narration, while Moby supplies the soundtrack. The film has been circling around for awhile now, but is gaining even more press with Joaquin being honored at the Hollywood Artivist Film Festival for his work. You can see a seven minute clip of the film here or grab the trailer here.

Awesome, I’d love to see it, but I doubt it’ll come out anywhere near me.

I have a question for you Rebecca, do you have a link or a list of some envrioment-movies?

  • rebecca

We can certainly make a list! For now, if you are interested in some green movies, I’d recommend:
Blue Vinyl (on DVD, can rent it from Netflix), Who Killed the Electric Car? (soon to be on DVD) and An Inconvenient Truth (also coming out very soon on DVD). Good idea about the list and we’ll get to work on it!
