Miami, FL. August 3, 2006 — What a crazy ride it’s been. One year ago, founders of Ecorazzi.com, Michael d’Estries and Rebecca Carter never expected to be in in the position they are today. The green gossip website was founded by d’Estries and Carter on a whim. “When we realized that there weren’t any blogs dedicated solely to eco-conscious celebrities or their other philanthropic efforts, we decided to take a stab at it,” recalled d’Estries.
And focus on the environmentally-minded celebs they did. Ecorazzi has covered red carpets from Los Angeles to New York, interviewing the stars on issues that matter. Navy NCIS’s Pauley Perrette gives Ecorazzi vintage shopping tips, Tony Shalhoub of Monk discusses his electric vehicle, and Maroon 5 tells Ecorazzi viewers how to save electricity. They have also featured interviews with authors, directors, and fashion designers pushing issues into the spotlight to help make a difference for the planet.
Since launch, Ecorazzi has been featured in Fast Company, The Observer, Yahoo!, and a myriad of other media publications, television shows, and radio. In constant growth, Ecorazzi currently pulls in over 10,000 visits a day. The company is working with Lightworks Producing Group to develop a weekly television series dedicated to rounding up all of the best green celebrity news.
The success of the site came as a surprise to its founders from the beginning. “We didn’t expect anything like this when we started Ecorazzi. It was supposed to be just a small little project from a couple of green bloggers who had never met each other,” said Carter. She continued, “In fact, a true virtual endeavor, we didn’t even meet face to face until eight months later.”
In the last year, Ecorazzi has grown their team of writers, field reporters, photographers, and video producers to total over 20 people across the world. The archives hold over 1,300 post covering everything from Hollywood environmental activism to humanitarian efforts and charity. “We decided early on that the need existed to not only cover the environmental passions of those in the spotlight, but also the other important philanthropic efforts underway. Good deeds and acts of charity occur in the entertainment industry all the time. We thought it was time to create a site that truly addressed these initiatives on a day-to-day basis,” said d’Estries.
The future looks bright for Ecorazzi. The company has plans to continue growing coverage, contributors, and visitors around the world. “This is way too much fun to stop here,” said Carter, “We’ve only just begun.”
