Last April, we reported that UK actress Judi Dench was joining a growing movement against a proposed eco-village near the birthplace of William Shakespeare. The location would be about six miles from Stratford upon-Avon in the heart of the English countryside. At the time, Dench had said she wasn’t against eco-villages in general — just [...]

“To me the whole eco-town pretence is just a way to dodge legitimate planning restrictions. There is no decent public transport infrastructure to support this half-baked scheme, which means that would-be residents will be heavily reliant on their cars. Where’s the ‘eco’ in that?”

DiCaprio’s ‘Greensburg’ Gets Picked Up For Six More Episodes

July 10th 2008

Looks like Planet Green has found a winner in Leonardo DiCaprio’s Greensburg. The network has decided to order six more episodes of the series. Currently, PG is about half-way through the first-season run of thirteen shows. It’s expected that the new pickups will air May 2009 to coincide with the two-year anniversary of the tornado.

We cover Prince Charles on the Raz a lot. So much, that sometimes we believe there can’t possibly be another interesting piece of his green career to write about. Of course, the Prince ain’t content to simply sit still, so here we are again with the dish that a new eco-town created by his highness [...]

April 9th 2008

With no James Bond to call upon in real life to fight her battles, Dame Judi Dench is taking to the streets herself in an effort to prevent the British government from building an eco-village near the birthplace of William Shakespeare. Looks like work on Leonardo DiCaprio’s new doc is moving faster than expected with Discovery Channel set to debut the series early. The show is also changing names from Eco Town (which admittedly was lame) to The Greensburg Project. It will span four networks, including the main Discovery channel and sister network TLC, starting a [...]

DiCaprio’s Green Town Starts To Come Together

Documentary crews have been in area for months filming rebuilding

February 4th 2008

While the hype surrounding Leonardo DiCaprio’s new show Eco-Town for Discovery Channel’s upcoming Planet Green has died down over the past few months, the real work of filming the series has been ramping up. This means that the residents of Greensburg, Kansas are witnessing some real changes as the town seeks to rebuild sustainably following [...]

As Greensburg, Kansas begins the slow process of rebuilding after the wake of an F5 tornado back in May, many residents are uncertain when, if ever, the town will ever return to its former self. Even with the recent announcement that Greensburg would be the center of attention for a new documentary headed by Leonardo [...]

Breaking Down Discovery Channel’s New Green Entertainment Empire

August 3rd 2007

When Discovery Channel announced their intentions to create an all-green network called PlanetGreen back in early April, nobody was too sure how serious to take them. After all, The Sundance Channel was already bowing with three hours of green television once a week later that month — while Discovery wasn’t planning on launching until early [...]

DiCaprio and Discovery Channel Team Up On “Eco-Town” Series

July 14th 2007

We’ve previously mentioned Leonardo DiCaprio’s desire to provide a green makeover for an entire town, but it’s taken a tornado, a new network, and the current buzz with anything “eco” to make it a reality.
Yesterday, Discovery Channel president and CEO David Zaslav announced that DiCaprio’s new show “Eco-Town” will help launch the new Planet Green [...]
