Angie And Brad Give Another Million To Aid Pakistani Refugees

Filed under: campaigns, donations — Michael Andre d'Estries @ 11:17 am

brad pitt, angelina jolie

Over the past several days, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have definitely been in a giving mood. Last weekend, the pair donated $1 million dollars St. John’s Hospital to help to establish an endowment fund for children’s care specialists, as well as construct a new pediatric unit. Now, as Cele|bitchy tells us, another $1 million is going to aid refugees in Pakistan. From the article,

“Saturday is World Refugee Day and it seems that the Jolie-Pitts are doing their best to bring awareness to the plight of displaced people around the world. Angelina recently released a short PSA for the UNHCR, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, for which she has worked for eight years. It was a very moving 30 second spot in which Jolie told us to remember refugees while scenes of war and people in peril were shown in the background.”

Jolie will be appearing tonight on CNN in an interview with Anderson Cooper to discuss World Refugee Day. To help support her cause, please visit the UN Refugee Agency to make a donation.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Donate $1 Million To St. John’s Hospital

Filed under: donations — Michael Parrish DuDell @ 10:24 am

Brad Pitt and Angelina JolieOh, Brangelina - can’t you just do SOMETHING wrong!

The past weekend, the powerful celebrity duo donated $1 million to St. John’s Hospital to help to establish an endowment fund for children’s care specialists, as well as construct a new pediatric unit.

Pitt and Jolie love children, so it isn’t surprising that they’re using their wealth to help improve the lives of thousands of kids.

To honor Pitt’s mother, the treatment unit will be renamed the Jane Pitt Pediatric Cancer Center in recognition of her advocacy.

Of course I joke about my annoyance with Brangelina’s seemingly perfect life. It’s always rad when celebrities open their wallets for amazing causes and I’m stoked to see the duo doing good! Keep up the fan-tas-great work, ya’ll!

Ashton Kutcher Wants You To Help Raise Awareness For Hunger Relief

Filed under: campaigns, donations — Michael Andre d'Estries @ 12:35 pm

kutcherAshton Kutcher is truly embracing the social networking charity scene. The actor — who was the first one on Twitter to reach over a million followers, as well as simultaneously raise cash for the fight against malaria — is now starting a new campaign to help fight hunger.

According to a new video posted by Kutcher late last week, a mysterious corporation is backing the campaign which involves people submitting videos declaring an end to hunger and then eating something. Apparently, Kutcher will then collect all the submissions and edit them into one larger video. The mystery corp will then donate $10 million dollars to ending hunger in America (we imagine this will be given to FeedingAmerica.org).

For more details, check out Kutcher’s call to action here.

Titanic Survivor Helped By DiCaprio, Winslet Passes Away At Age 97

Filed under: donations — Michael Andre d'Estries @ 10:23 am

Earlier last month, we wrote about an effort from Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet, James Cameron and others to help the last remaining Titanic survivor live out her days comfortably in a nursing home. 97-year-old Millvina Dean — who was only 2-months old at the time of the famous ship’s sinking — was running into trouble paying fees related to her care. At the time, Winslet and Dicaprio issued a joint statement urging others to donate and telling Millvina that she could “rest easier in knowing that her future will become more secure through this fund.”

Sadly, Dean passed away in her sleep yesterday in Southampton, England — the same city the Titanic launched from in 1912. It’s yet unclear what will be done with the money raised for Millvina’s care (see the official site here), but we imagine it will be put to some good use in her memory.

For more information on her life, click here.

How Much Are Robert Pattinson’s Kisses Worth? $20K Each!

Filed under: donations — Michael Andre d'Estries @ 10:19 am

robert_pattinson

Twilight star Robert Pattinson was definitely a good sport last night when he put himself up on the auction block to help raise money for the amfAR Cinema Against AIDS fund. The actor was in Cannes for the annual film festival, and clearly showed embarrassement over having to endure a rising bidding war for a meet and greet — and a kiss on the cheek. Eventually, two bidders paid $20K each for the 23-year-old’s lip service.

Also up for grabs was one of those ridiculous Chanel-branded Segway scooters (of which Diane Kruger almost fell off of), Bill Clinton’s personal Alpine Alto saxophone (which went for an incredible $130K!), and a joking strip-tease from Josh Hartnett. Fortunately for him, bidding never got high enough. Perhaps they should have asked Robert Pattinson instead.

Proceeds from the auction support amfAR’s work which includes AIDS research, HIV prevention, treatment education and sound AIDS-related public policy. To find out how you can support amfAR, visit www.amfar.org. Check out the video of Pattinson being auctioned below:
