Sprig Enjoys Some Celebrity Eco-Mania At Sundance!

Our stylish friends over at Sprig have just released a video of their good times at Sundance. Sprig stalkerazzis (though we’re naming them honorary ecorazzis) Brit Liggett and Jennifer Prediger hit the streets and spoke with Tom Hanks, Colin First, Emily Blunt, and a bunch of other celebs about their eco-friendly habits and naughty sins. For instance, Tom Hanks has solar panels above his office, drives two electric vehicles — but feels horrible about reading the morning paper. Yea, we think he’s an a#$hole too. C’mon Tom, pick up your game!

Check out the rockin’ video below from Sprig.com!

Sundance Beat: Gifting Lounges Abound!

Filed under: festivals — melissa @ 2:47 pm

firth.jpg

Gifting lounges seem to be one of the biggest highlights of the sundance festival. Is gifting really so eco-friendly?! Aren’t we trying to get rid of having so much stuff?? Yesterday I had the chance to visit the Ultimate Oasis: The Green Lounge, created by J.R. Savet. This event/lounge benefits Brad Pitt’s, Make It Right foundation.

The cool part about this lounge was it was in a home behind main street. I walked in and was offered a hot cup of numitea. On the main floor in the house was Shaklee, giving away some laundry products to Kristi Hume and Donaovan Leitch. Other brands represented were Hint Water, Tolaspa (whose stylists are from the Paul Mitchell school), Royal
Underground, and catered by FUD, which featured tasty food creations by organic chef Heidi VanPelt. Her presentation was really creative.

Below are some additional photos I’ve snagged from in and around Sundance. Enjoy!

John Legend Brings The Groove To Sundance

Filed under: festivals, music — melissa @ 3:48 pm

legend.jpg

Last night, Lexus Hybrid Living offered a limited amount of tickets to visitors of Project Greenhouse for an intimate concert to see Grammy Award winning artist John Legend perform at the Star bar. Legend came onto the stage about 9:30 and welcomed the high energy crowd. His voice was out of this world and it was a night to remember. I think everyone who attended would say this was one of the best musical highlights of the festival. Some of the proceeds from the evening will go to Legend’s favorite charities.

A Smattering Of Green Films Premiering At 2008 Sundance

Filed under: festivals, film-tv, movies — michael @ 12:33 pm

biofuel.jpg

It was only two years ago that Al Gore premiered a little-known film called An Inconvenient Truth at Sundance 2006. Since then, the festival has experienced an increase in eco-themed documentaries and movies; not to mention environmental awareness in handling everything from programs to merchandise to transportation.

This year’s entries include such topics as America’s dependency on fossil fuels to the precarious future of water resources to, well, the end of the world.

First up is Field of Fuels — a film about U.S. dependency on fossil fuels and the potential of biodiesel to replace gasoline. Proving their point, the cast and crew traveled from Venice, CA to Sundance in a biodiesel caravan. Director Josh Tickell’s film was even selected to open up the festival at Robert Redford’s preserve this past Wednesday. He’s hopeful for a 200-1000 screen release in theaters during the election campaign in ‘08. You can check out their ‘Sundance Blog’ over on the official Fuels site. (Thanks to Earth Pledge, the film is also carbon-neutral. Interestingly enough, Oscar-Best-Picture runner There Will Be Blood also voluntarily offset their production through EP.)

Next up is FLOW: For Love of Water which documents the intense relationship between people and water, and examines the growing rate of depletion of the most precious of natural resources. From the official site,

“Armed with a thirst for survival, people around the world are fighting for their birthright; unless we instigate change, we face a world in which only those that can pay for their water will survive. FLOW: For Love of Water, is a catalyst for people everywhere: the time has come to turn the tide and we can’t wait any longer.”

On the fictional front, we have Half-Life. While some might be quick to think this is a movie version of the video game, it’s vastly different. Here’s the quick summary: “Set in the idyllic hills of northern California, Jennifer Phang’s marvelously original first feature, Half-Life, is a supernormal tale about self-absorbed and disillusioned suburbanites who live in a futuristic time of natural disasters, suffocating air quality, and accelerating global cataclysms.”

Sounds deep — but Sundance isn’t about thin films with little-to-no brain activity. Should be cool to see how these all fair against the traditional indies — but at the end of the day, we’re just happy to see more attention being paid to these topics. Look for most of these to be available to the public sometime this year.

Sundance Village At The Yard

Filed under: festivals — michael @ 7:19 pm

Village at the Yard, produced by BNC & Relevent Group, has been a VIP experience for many celebrities during Sundance for the past five years. This afternoon, it was jamming!

The lounge is a gathering place during the festival; while supporting the film community. OK Magazine hosted the Diary of the Dead cast dinner at the T-mobile Diner, which I did not get to attend. But I did taste the mac and cheese there today which was out of this world. Some other gifting brand participants were Pure Romance, LA Times, Drugstore.com, Christo, Forum Snowboards, Fiji Water, Diesel, and Timberland.

Since I worked for Timberland, I spent some extra time at the lounge. Some of the famous faces to stop by were Kerr Smith & Kevin Sorbo who were gifted the Earthkeeper boots, Rexx Lee from Entourage who picked up a pair of the Winter Park Lace Boots, and Ian Ziering who received a pair of the Winter in Whistler Pack Boots. Check out the Timberland website to see how they are supporting the environment.

Chilling At The Rejuvenation Lounge

From Project Greenhouse to the Rejuvenation lounge sponsored by GBK Productions. This scene was set up with mostly eco-friendly products — some of the names were Amy Lee, Medicine Women, Eco Gear, RevaleSkin (their products are made from coffee berries), World Wildlife Fund, and Ear Therapy — where i was given a combo of reflexology and auriculotherapy on my ear. Here’s a shot I grabbed of actor Armand Assante.

Sundance Beat: Project Greenhouse Rocking Out Park City

Filed under: festivals, green and famous — melissa @ 10:56 am

The Lexus Project Greenhouse is one of the hot spots at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. The greenhouse lounge was totally happening- they were offering massages, showcasing eco furniture, giving out some fabulous drinks and supplying the Park City Water- of which I am big fan of the packaging.

One of my favorite eco-jewelry designers, Monique Pean, was showcasing her jewelry as well. Monique told me she will be traveling in the next two weeks with the Charity: Water organization. Who’s else has been here so far?

Emma Bell was spotted in the Project Greenhouse lounge chatting it up with Corrin Arasa. Bell will be co-starring in the amazing film “Death in Love”, directed by Boaz, starring Jacqueline Bissett, Josh Lucas, Adam Brody and Lucas Haas. Emma told me she really enjoyed working with everyone in the cast. I asked her what she thought of the film and she said she hadn’t seen it yet!

Also in attendance was Donovan Leitch — on the chair at PG getting a massage- along with his wife model Kristi Hume. I thought she so tall and I am 5′10”! Not short!!

More to come!

Attention Sundance: “Giving. It’s The New Getting”

i_tunes_logo.jpgAs Hollywood VIPs flood into the mountains of Park City dressed in snow bunny couture for the Sundance film festival, a new type of celebrity giving is in store - literally. The Giving Suite is a new concept intended to reignite the lost heart and soul of the film industry with a social responsibility edge.

The Giving Suite is a collaboration from RE:VOLVE Apparel Project and leading online philanthropic eco marketplace eConsicous Market. The 1,500 sq foot Giving Suite will transform daily from boutique, to lounge, to press area, to club…and back again – hosting filmmakers, celebrities, acoustic performances, parties, and more. Celebrities and VIP’s can purchase featured products at a discount with all the profits going to one of the causes featured in The Giving Suite including: The Waterkeeper Alliance, Earth Pledge, The Environmental Media Association, Healthy Child/Healthy World, Our Future Now, Room to Read, and The United Nations HCR.

Pop-culture watchers can purchase the products featured during Sundance at givingsuite.com, with 50% of Net Profits going to the their charity of choice featured in The Giving Suite. According to the website:

eConscious Market has carefully selected brands that have proven their commitment to ecological and social responsibility. Each vendor featured in the Giving Suite has filled out an extensive Sustainability Questionnaire that measures each business’ commitment to people, profit and planet. These manufacturers stand out in the field of environmental and social integrity. They incorporated sustainability into their business strategy long before the green bandwagon came to town.

So Ugg boots and bling be damned. Check out the festivities and get your give on!

Yo, Sundance 2008! Let’s Kick It!

Hollywood takes a break from the picket lines to have some fun

sundance.jpg

It may currently be five degrees in Park City, Utah — but with the 2008 Sundance Festival kicking off this evening, things are going to be heating up considerably. [Yes, that’s my opening line. Deal with it.]

We’ve got four Ecorazzi contributors out and about on the scene with the unfortunate duty of pausing in between the fun to update the rest of us on what we’re missing. As usual, we’ll be checking all the cool green action going down at the Festival — from the movies being screened, to the events pushing eco-friendly swag, to who’s saying what, wearing who, and making out with backstage. That last part probably won’t happen, but we’ll look into it anyways.

So stay tuned — and be sure to check out the official Sundance site for some great previews of all the Indy films being screened this year.

Thanks to Kevin Wall

Filed under: campaigns, ecorazzi exclusive, festivals, green and famous, interviews, music, politics, shopping, television — Sarah Shewey @ 9:27 pm

Kevin WallKevin Wall, the founder of Live Earth, has become an eco-celebrity in his own right having broken the record for the most viewers to watch an entertainment event at one time – chances are, you were one of those 2 billion people. “It’s a little surreal, I really prefer not to be [a celebrity]. We want to continue make this cause a topic of conversation.”

Wall intends to build upon his influence in orchestrating every government of the world to come together, negotiate and ratify a treaty for environmental change by 2010. Go get ‘em, Kevin!

In the meantime, a Live Earth DVD and a Live Earth CD will be available for sale in two weeks worldwide. The DVD has three parts: onstage performances, a behind-the-scenes documentary of creating and greening the show, and a collection of 20 short films that were made for the event. The CD/DVD package will feature Linkin Park, Metallica, Madonna, Smashing Pumpkins, The Police, Kelly Clarkson, Dave Matthews Band, Foo Fighters, John Mayer, Beastie Boys, Keith Urban, Rihanna and many more. Sounds like the perfect ecorazzi holiday gift!
