Ice Age Clip Proves It’s Hard To Make Dinosaurs Go Vegetarian

iceage

The Ice Age computer-animated series of movies are great, but for me, the trailers that star Scrat — a fictional “saber-toothed squirrel” — are even better. I enjoy watching his unrelenting efforts to possess an always just-out-of-reach acorn. But I digress…

As you’ll see in this clip, Sid — one of the new characters from Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (which opened this weekend) — “adopts” three apparently abandoned eggs; which unfortunately hatch into baby Tyrannosaurus the next morning. Eventually, the mother returns only to find Sid attempting to raise the babies vegetarian, saying it’s a “healthier lifestyle”. Hilarity ensues. Check it out below:

Ray Romano and Queen Latifah Share Their Green Tips

The Mother Nature Network caught up with Ray Romano and Queen Latifah during a press junket for their new animated film Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs — and asked them for some sage green advice. It’s pretty general stuff with Romano saying people should get a reusable water bottle and Latifah praising the merits of recycling. Check it out below:

The Green Quote: Tyrese Gibson Won’t Visit Hooters

tyrese“I’m terrified of owls. It started when I was young. I can’t even look at the image of an owl. I’ve never been to Hooters in my life and I’ve never seen any of the Harry Potter movies because they have owls throughout.”

– Transformer’s actor Tyrese Gibson in a recent interview.

The Green Picture: Johnny Depp’s Mad Hatter

A very Happy Un-Birthday to you!

johnny depp, mad hatter, alice in wonderland

The only thing particularly green about this photo is the background, but I wanted to throw it up there anyways since Johnny Depp’s take on the Mad Hatter looks brilliant. As you’ve probably guessed, this one of the first promo shots for Tim Burton’s trippy take on Alice In Wonderland. After seeing what Depp looks like, would you want to take a fall down this rabbit hole?

Apocalypse Porn: New 2012 Trailer Almost Destroys Itself

Favorite part: The White House getting leveled by an aircraft carrier that's caught in a tsunami.

whitehouse

We’ve been keeping a close watch on the upcoming apocalypse film 2012 by director Roland Emmerich — mainly because it features the world cleansing itself of humanity and beating us to a pulp in the process. It stars actors like John Cusack (there had better be a scene with him standing in the rain) and Woody Harrelson, Thandie Newton, Danny Glover, Amanda Peet, Oliver Platt, and Chin Han.

Director Roland Emmerich has plenty of experience with disaster movies — having been the guy behind such faves as The Day After Tomorrow and Independence Day. And while I thought the White House getting zapped by aliens in Independence was pretty awesome, nothing compares to the sheer gratuitous insanity of watching a tumbling aircraft carrier in a tsunami wipe it out instead. Check it out below:

Note: As the trailer is getting hammered at the moment, I would recommend letting it load a bit before watching. That, or hit up Yahoo for what appears to be a faster stream.

Planet Green Launches New Documentary Block “Reel Impact”

planet green, reel impact

Planet Green — the all-eco programming network from Discovery Communications — is getting ready to launch a new block of television aimed specifically at showing off feature-length green documentaries. The move catapults the network into territory once solely owned by Sundance Channel’s THE GREEN and gives even greater exposure to the eco-doc industry.

Called “Reel Impact” the weekly two-hour block of documentary programming will “feature an eclectic slate of high-profile films including some world and U.S. premieres.” Flicks slated to appear include The Last Beekeeper, No Impact Man, A Sea Change, DiCaprio’s 11th Hour, and many more. Over the next few months, Planet Green hopes to add more than 20 films to the lineup. “The influential films ‘Reel Impact’ brings to the small screen truly illustrate the tremendous impact humans have and how we interact with the planet. These films tap into the emotions of every viewer and will inspire and move them through engaging and provocative storylines,” said Laura Michalchyshyn, President and General Manager of Planet Green.

It’s definitely a positive move on PG’s part to add this new segment to their lineup of original series. The environmental doc scene has absolutely exploded recently (this year’s Sundance is a perfect example) and giving these films a large audience is a huge boost for green filmmakers. Look for Reel Impact to launch September 12th.

“Food Inc.” Hits Theaters Today With Important Sustainable Message

Filed under: film-tv, movies, video — Michael Parrish DuDell @ 9:38 am

Food in this country is pretty effed up!

With super-stores and mega-chains and gigantic outlets popping up just about everywhere, the sanctity of our diet is becoming a thing of the past. Lucky for us, there’s a movie out there trying to change all that.

Food Inc. hits theaters today with a message that everyone need to hear! This importantdocumentary lifts the veil on our nation’s food industry, exposing the highly mechanized underbelly that has been hidden from the American consumer with the consent of our government’s regulatory agencies, USDA and FDA.

Check out the trailer below and then visit MagPictures.com to find a showing near you. This movie should not be missed!

HOME Documentary Now Available Online In Delicious High-Definition

For FREE -- until June 14th!

home documentary

I can’t remember the last time a film with epic visuals like HOME was released to the masses online — for free. YouTube, in a post on the company blog, said the event “marks the first time a global audience can watch a movie online, in movie theaters, on TV stations, and on outdoor screens around the world at the exact same time.”

And what a treat it is. Besides the Planet Earth series, you would be hard pressed to find another visual feast like this one. More than eye candy, however, HOME will get you thinking about our relationship to the planet in ways few documentaries can. As the director Yann Arthus-Bertrand said, “From the sky, there’s less need for explanations.”

The film will be available online until June 14th. I’d embed it below, but for the full experience, I recommend clicking thru to Youtube here and hitting the HD button on the bottom-right. Trust me — you won’t be disappointed.

New Home Eco-Doc May Rival Earth’s Visuals

First came Planet Earth, which premiered on the BBC and then hit the Discovery Channel. Then, Disneynature rehashed and added footage from Planet Earth for the theatrical release of their first nature doc titled simply EARTH. Now, another documentary from acclaimed photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand is about to hit Discovery Channel and theatres simultaneously called Home. Still following?

Unlike the previous scenic montages we’ve viewed, Home actually takes a hard look at human impact on the planet — all the while doing it with visuals that are stunning. Celebrity narration abounds, with Glenn Close voicing the English version and Salma Hayek the Spanish. Check out the gorgeous trailer below:

Cameron Diaz Makes A Low-Budget Environmental Documentary

Though she admits we're probably "f**ked"

cameron diaz, eco, marie clarie, environmentWhile Cameron Diaz’s environmental passions were less probed in the May issue of Vogue, the actress certainly didn’t hold back for this month’s feature in Marie Claire. The magazine not only got some great quotes out of Diaz on her eco-cred, but also tagged along for some filming of her new low-budget documentary on “our relationship to the planet”. From the article,

“Inspired by the annual TED conference that she’s attended—a kind of smarty-pants consortium dedicated to the spread of innovative ideas put forth by speakers like Bono, Al Gore, Jane Goodall, and Samantha Power—Diaz felt the urge to start a far-reaching conversation about the environment. ‘I was like, I’m going to get a camera, and I’m going to mobile-home it across the country, and I’m just going to find out what people are thinking. What would it take for the common person to become engaged?’—in the catastrophe that is the state of our natural resources. Most of all, she wants to help raise consciousness. ‘There’s a lot of great minds out there who are thinking about this,’ she says, who are coming up with solutions. Not to crash anybody’s party, but to actually make the party better.’ She laughs. ‘Really, that’s what it’s about—that’s my participation in it.’”

There aren’t too many celebrities that take it upon themselves to get out there and get people talking about the environment. Diaz is truly engaged in getting the issues front and center — though she admits it can be a bit of a depressing challenge.

“‘I’m sad,’ Diaz says later, in the car on the way to a Mexican joint for dinner. ‘It’s just sad.’ She drains a plastic water bottle and tosses it on the floor of the car. ‘And I’m unhappy about the waste I just produced.’ Diaz and Dylan, sitting next to her in the backseat, conclude that we as a people are summarily, environmentally ‘fucked.’ In fact, that quickly becomes the leitmotif of the trip, and it cracks them up every time. Diaz, out of the blue: ‘You know what we are?’ Dylan: ‘Let me guess—fucked?’”

I’m sure we’ve all thought that at one time or another.
