Desperate fame seekers Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt spend a few hours serving up Taco Bell to “promote healthy eating for kids.” Reread that sentence, folks. Yep, makes you kinda want to vomit, right?

PETA Asks Glenn Close To Help Armani Go Fur Free Once And For All

Filed under: animals, campaigns, fashion, not green — parrish @ 1:41 pm

As Ecorazzi previously reported, Georgio Armani seriously pissed off PETA (and pretty much every other animal-respecting person) when it was announced that his fall collection would include fur coats for babies, floral-printed fur coats, fur-hemmed skirts, and fur-trimmed jackets. You see besides the fact that wearing fur just totally sucks, Armani has been in talks with PETA for years about no longer using the cruel byproduct and even told Time magazine, “I spoke with the people from PETA, and they showed me some materials that convinced me not to use fur.” So…umm….what?

Shortly after the announcement, PETA’s Senior Vice President Dan Mathews met with Armani’s senior design team who confirmed that the company basically had no plans to ever stop using fur. Now whether you’re fan of PETA or not (I go back and forth), one thing you can always bank on is their ability to get plain, old medieval on your ass. In fact, PETA has already launched a full-force attack against the designer and has called for a celebrity boycott.

In a recent letter to Glenn Close – she wore Armani to the Emmy’s last week — Mathews wrote: We ask that you please use your considerable influence with Mr. Armani to urge him to keep his word and leave fur out of future collections. We also ask that you consider wearing fashions from some of the wonderful fur-free designers such as Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, and Stella McCartney.”

Will Glenn Close use her star power to help PETA finally get Armani to go fur-free? Ante up and place your bets now!

[UPDATE! Looks like Pamela Anderson has sent a letter to Cate Blanchett urging her to stop backing Armani as well. The Aussie actress was at the Armani unveiling of his fall collection in Milan. "Cate, as you are such a huge part of Armani's publicity machine, would you please urge him to keep his promise and leave fur out of his future collections?" Anderson wrote.]

Martha Stewart Likes Big, Long Wieners

Filed under: film-tv, food & drink, not green, television — parrish @ 11:33 am

I never thought I’d write the words “Martha Stewart” and “big, long wiener” in the same sentence, but I also never thought Giorgio Armani would double-cross PETA.

On a recent episode of The Martha Stewart Show, the talk show host invited the folks from Empire National to showcase their 15-foot long hotdog, which was inspired by the world’s largest hotdog – a whopping 197 feet long of mystery meat.

It’s estimated that Americans consume approximately 20 billion hot dogs each year, which figures out to be about 634 a second. Besides the fact that hotdogs are insanely bad for you, they’re also exceptionally cruel and totally NOT eco-friendly.

While Martha has worked with PETA in the past to expose the realties of the fur trade, obviously Martha has no problem supporting the meat industry. Said Martha: “For those of you who don’t think length matters, I disagree – especially when it comes to wieners. There’s just never enough bites in a hot dog.” Um…gross!

If you’d rather not dine on pig but still wanna go to the barbecue, visit Yves and check out all their groovier, greener meat-free products!

Rihanna Makes Huge Fashion Blunder With Fur Collar

Filed under: fashion, not green — parrish @ 11:39 am

Oh Jesus, please tell me that isn’t REAL FUR!! Pop star Rihanna is pictured here wearing what looks to be a fur collar and we can’t determine if it’s real or fake. Nowadays it’s hard to tell the difference – although many times faux is still derived from animals.

While Rihanna is really good about raising money for charity, we know that animal issues aren’t really a big concern to her. In fact, after Rihanna and Chris Brown were caught kissing in a Florida KFC, the company sent a letter to the couple saying: “Clearly, like our founder Colonel Sanders, you two know how to kick it up a few degrees. We could feel the heat - literally - in our restaurant that night. So much so that we’d like to invite you and Chris back to any KFC for a free meal.”

Do we have any fur experts out there? If you think you can spot the real stuff, chime in and share your thoughts!

Michael Jackson Doesn’t ‘Get It’ When It Comes To Organic Chicken

Filed under: food & drink, not green — lori @ 9:08 am

A long time friend and hang-out buddy (yes, it’s a grown man) of Michael Jackson describes how ’the man without a face’ loves visiting KFC. The best friend is David Gest; remember him from his marriage to Elizabeth Taylor Liza Minnelli?  Doesn’t he have a wonky plastic surgery face too? Well, he’s been friends with the Jacksons since childhood and had this to say about his BFF, “I’ve been best friends with Michael for 40 years and I will defend his reputation until the day I die.”

“When we hang out we visit antique stores, play Frisbee and go to KFC - he thinks if you peel the skin off the chicken, it makes it organic. He cracks me up.”

OMG!

Chef Gordon Ramsay In Trouble After Puffin Hunting Scandal?

Filed under: animals, food & drink, not green — parrish @ 11:14 am

I think it’s fair to say that Gordon Ramsay loves meat with the same amount of gusto that he hates vegetarians. In case you’ve forgotten, Gordon angered Paul McCartney after making several off color remarks about the vegetarian lifestyle that were just plain dumb. Obviously this very, VERY pro-meat chef might upset the meat-free, but is he now even starting to piss off his own fans too? YEP!

Earlier this summer Ecorazzi reported that Ramsay spent time in Poland hunting puffins. You see in Britain, where Ramsay regularly records, puffins are endangered and therefore protected by law. However, Gordon took the special trip to Poland so he might get the chance to hunt the otherwise endangered bird. As if that wasn’t enough, after shooting the puffin he proceeded to rip out its heart and eat it raw.

Shortly after the episode the bosses at his network were inundated with complaints over the vulgar action and many suspected that Ramsay might be in some real trouble with the law. But the watchdog group Ofcom has just concluded that since the bird is not protected in Iceland, Gordon broke no rules.

Will Gordon Ramsay see a backlash from his beastly ways? I certainly hope so!

MTV Trashes A Piece Of Rainforest For Their New Reality Show

Filed under: film-tv, not green, television — michael @ 10:01 pm

On September 17, MTV is getting ready to show off a new reality show called “Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Island“. Much like Survivor, it’s supposed to show a bunch of people “roughing it” while completing tasks, acting like asses, and other dramatic moments.

As one would expect, the real “reality” is much less exciting. In fact, as was recently reported by Michael Drake on the Tree Climber’s Coalition site, not only is the show basically scripted and shot in and around civilization, but it also appears to have done a good deal of environmental damage. Drake, along with others living on Boca del Drago Island in the Republic of Panama witnessed MTV clear a large section of rainforest for the set construction. In addition, they also trashed a pristine beach, disturbed a bird sanctuary island “off-limits” to human visitations, and left behind an insane amount of garbage, set debris, and refuse.

As Drake wrote, “MTV’s behavior in this situation has been rampantly inconsistent with their self-proclaimed ‘MTV Green Crusade’. I sense a bit of hypocrisy and I question their commitment toward being ‘green’.”

Of course, it’s not uncommon for television and movie productions to adversely impact their surroundings. The uproar surrounding the environmental damage done by DiCaprio’s film The Beach back in ‘99 comes to mind as something similar. What is surprising is that in this time of supposed “awareness” of these issues — and the efforts being done by studios like MTV to address them — that such a production would proceed forward without any care towards its impact. Not to mention the fact that they somehow figured nobody would care? Or talk about it online?

I encourage you to check out Drake’s full report on MTV’s negligence in Panama over on the Tree Climber’s Coalition site. These personal reports are vital for keeping tabs on what’s really happening behind the scenes — and we thank him for bringing it front and center. So MTV, what’s the story?

Victoria Beckham And Gordon Ramsay To Open Very Non-Vegetarian Restaurant

Filed under: food & drink, not green — parrish @ 10:07 am

I always think it’s rather strange when an outspoken vegetarian displays continuous non-vegetarian decision making skills. For example: the Green Quote from yesterday was from Diane Keaton who spoke about her wonderful choice to go veg. While I was pleased to report the news, what I didn’t include was that when Diane was asked if she had raised her children vegetarian she said: “No, no. I’m not doing that to them. I’m sure, once they grow up, they’ll be going, ‘What an eccentric human being, this mother of ours.” Eccentric? Really?

In another case of Veggie WTF, Victoria Beckham (who loves cooking mince meat for her family even though she’s meat-free) is planning on opening a new restaurant in LA with celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay.

Now of course you can automatically assume the restaurant will be far from veg since Gordon himself once said: “If my daughter ever grew up and married a vegetarian, I’d never forgive her.” Ramsay recently confirmed his and Victoria’s non-veg establishment, saying: “Yes, it is true that Victoria and I are setting up a restaurant in LA. together. I’m really excited. She’s really keen to focus on a traditional English-style menu, like bangers and mash, fish and chips and such like.”

Bangers and mash? Fish and chips? Part of being vegetarian is not only eating in a responsible way, but showing the world that it’s basically the most awesome thing ever! Normally my philosophy is that whatever small change a person can make in their diet to lead a more green, less cruel life is totally rad! HOWEVER, Victoria is a big star and it’s important she set a clear and positive example for the world to follow. What do you think? Is it cool that Veggie Vicky is opening a restaurant with a meat-infested menu? Speak now or forever hold your peace!

The Green Picture: PETA Is Back And Pissed At Jennifer Lopez

Filed under: animals, fashion, not green — parrish @ 11:51 am

A protester is pictured here at the Dennis Basso fashion show yesterday afternoon sporting an anti Jennifer Lopez sign. Earlier in the week PETA staged a protest at the Donna Karan fashion show even though reports have shown that no fur was actually used at the event.  Basso, however, is most definitely a fur lover and PETA is pissed! But what does J-LO have to do with Basso? Anyone know?

The Green Quote: Vegetarian Victoria Beckham Likes To Cook Mince Meat

Filed under: not green — parrish @ 9:48 am

“The only thing I can cook really is mince meat, which is ironic because I’m a vegetarian. But I like calzone and lasagna. I cooked every day in Spain so David and the boys lived off minced meat for four years. I cook a Sunday dinner every single Sunday I’ll have you know. My kids like Yorkshire pudding so I make that, I can make it from scratch and I make Dora the Explorer cakes for afters because the kids love them.”

- Victoria Beckham discussing her mince meat cooking ways. Somebody hand this chick a vegetarian cookbook! It’s time to broaden your horizons Victoria!
