Glenn Close Receives Golden Bone For Work With Dogs

Paris has too many. DMX might have been too cruel. Michael Vick…well we all know how that story ended. Aren’t there any celebrities out there treatin’ Snoopy right? Enter Glenn Close. 

Glenn Close recently received a “Golden Bone” from LookToTheStars.org for her role as co-founder of Fetchdog.com — an online store that offers high-end canine supplies while raising money for charity. Each time you purchase an item through Fetchdog.com a percentage of the total will be donated to a select dog charity of your choice. Some doggy-options are: Little Angels Pug Rescue, Animal Rescue New Orleans,the ASPCA and many more. 

The site is also home to Glenn’s blog and a section called Lively Licks where Glenn interviews celebs like Mary Steenburgen, Ted Danson, Dan Zelman and Debra Messing about all things canine. “Our dogs love us and keep us laughing through good times and bad,” writes Close on her blog, “This blog is a tribute to all the fabulous dogs who trot and wag their way through our lives and to the people who they have so successfully trained.”

Close has several dogs herself and is known for bringing her “kids” to the set while shooting. Now I know some of you might be wondering if Glenn got her dogs from rescue shelters, so I did a little digging (no pun intended).  I couldn’t get word if any of her CURRENT dogs are from shelters, but she has a solid record of owning rescued dogs and she certainly supports some great rescue shelters!

So a big high five, Glenn, from me to you. Thanks for setting the example and doing them doggies right!

Pop Stars Aly Michalka And AJ Michalka Support MS Research

A few days ago I confessed out totally unaware I was of pretty much all of things “tween culture”, but it’s been my Earth Week resolution to study up on the comings and goings of those under 16, and so I’m pleased to report more celebrity do-gooders not quite old enough to see an R rated movie. 

Pop duo Aly Michalka and AJ Michalka are featured in a new ad modeling Tommy Hilfiger-designed orange t-shirts to support the Nancy Davis Foundation for MS. A number of retailers will soon be caring the charitable garb, and of course all proceeds will go to the Nancy Davis Foundation For MS to educate the community and fund MS research.

Also, soon you’ll be able to pick up bracelets by Alexandra Knight and wallets/peace bracelets by Tommy Hilfiger.

Celebrity Designer Offers Special Earth Day Necklace

Access Hollywood recently reported that Robyn Rhodes, whose jewelry has been seen on the likes of Jessica Alba, Scarlett Johansson and Eva Longoria, has designed a necklace with model and actress Josie Maran in honor of this years Earth Day. 

Robyn recently told Access “I thought actually to name it the Rumi necklace after Josie’s daughter.”

The bling retails at $120 for the sterling silver version and $126 for 14K gold with 20 percent of the proceeds going to the environmental protection group Global Green USA.

Mary J. Blige Has TOO MANY SHOES!

We’ve busted Mary J. Blige before for her fur-wearing ways, and now we’re back again after comments she made regarding her over-the-top shoe collection.

Mary recently said: “My biggest fashion weakness is definitely shoes. My favourites are some Chloe wedges. I have around 1,000 pairs.”

Mary goes on to reveal she has an entire closet devoted just to shoes. I’m sorry…WHAT?!!!! 1,000 pairs!!! A whole closet??? Technically, that means Mary could wear a different pair everyday for almost 3 years!

Here’s what I think: I think she should visit Soles4Souls.com and donate some of the those high tops to a few people in need. Share the wealth Mary, share the wealth.

Leona Helmsley Gets Charitable From The Grave

Sure, she was once dubbed, “The Queen Of Mean”, but you can’t stay mean forever-or at least you can’t “stay” forever. Indeed, it looks like Leona Helmsley is doing her most generous work…from the grave.

A collection of Leona Helmsley’s swanky threads — including but not limited to — her famous Ferragamo flats, nearly a dozen fur coats (PETA members stay in your seats), and the suit she wore to prison, will be auctioned off this spring at Leslie Hindman Auctioners in Chicago.

The collection rocks designers like Bob Mackey, Yves Saint Laurent and Christian Dior, with the estimated price tag somewhere around 100,000 dollars.

The good news: before Helmsley died she requested that all her property be auctioned off and the proceeds given to the Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust.

Well it looks like the woman who once famously said, “We don’t pay taxes. Only the little people pay taxes”, is finally gonna help those little people pay them. Win $100,000 Dollars And A Date With Minnie Driver on eBay!

In perhaps the strangest contest news ever, FX is teaming up with eBay to launch The Riches Charity Auction, which runs from March 12-23. The winning package includes $100,000 and an opportunity to meet movie/pop star Minnie Driver. Now if you’ll remember, I had the chance to sit down with Minnie a few weeks ago, and you have my word that this chick is awesome!

The strange thing about the contest is that you’re bidding money to win money. I’ll say it again: you’re bidding money to win money. In fact, this is the first time in eBay’s history that visitors are able to do this.

All the proceeds from the winning bid (but not the 100,000 dollars FX is dishing out) will be donated to Oxfam America-a charity that Driver actively supports. Oxfam America is an international relief and development organization that creates lasting solutions to poverty, hunger and injustice…and we here at Ecorazzi think they’re just swell!

Stephanie Gibbons, FX Executive Vice President of Marketing & On-Air Promotions, explains her rather backwards auction this way, “On The Riches it is all about the big score, but this show has heart. Celebrities Donate Gowns For The 27 Dresses Charity Auction

What do Kylie, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Amy Winehouse and Renee Zellweger have in common? They’re all donating gowns to the 27 Dresses Celebrity Dress Auction…starting today! 

The auction is going live on eBay tonight at 7pm and will help raise funds for the Lavender Trust charity- a group supporting women suffering with breast cancer. All the dresses will be sold on eBay at three-day intervals until the release of the film.

Many of the donations are well known red carpet dresses, and straight off the backs of people like Mariah Carey, Geri Halliwell, Thandie Newton, Naomi Campbell and Heidi Klum. 

Obviously, the auction comes just in time for the release of Katherine Heigl’s latest film, 27 Dresses, which will hit nationwide March 27th (insert obvious plug here).

William Shatner Will NOT Sell His Hip Bone!!

The leg bone’s connected to the knee bone, and the knee bone’s connected to the thigh bone, and the thigh bone ’s connected to the hip bone…(record scratch) HOLD UP!!! What’s the hip bone connected to? Oh yeah, the charity bone.

The always appropriate, William Shatner, has chosen NOT to sell his hip bone from a recent surgery, in fear it might be in poor taste.

Recently, the Priceline Negotiator sold a kidney stone to GoldenPalace.com for a whopping 75,000 dollars and donated the money to the Habitat For Humanity’s house building project in New Orleans.

William said that he was brought to tears upon receiving a photograph of the happy family who now had a place to live thanks to his dusty, old kidney stone. Therefore, it was only natural to ponder the potential earnings of a broken hip bone. However, at the end of the day he changed his mind.

Shatner said, “GoldenPalace.com gave me $75,000 for my ugly little kidney stone (and) I had this hip replacement less than four weeks ago and I thought, `How bad taste would it be to sell my hip bone?’ I then decided it was bad taste, and, for me to decide something is bad taste… it was really bad.”

Wait a second! This whole body part selling thing has given me a great idea. I’m gonna take this full-time and start a website called CelebrityLeftOvers.com where I will auction off bits and pieces of the rich and famous they no longer need. I’ll make millions! Don’t steal my business idea, Ecorazzi readers…patent pending!

Katie Holmes Wastes C02 On International Shopping Excursions

If I had to ballpark it, I probably wouldn’t say that the Cruise/Holmes clan is the GREENEST of celebrity couples. Oh crap, I wouldn’t even say they’re in the top 100. You all know I busted on Tom Cruise before…twice, and now I’m about to go all Dakota Fanning (definition: verb meaning to get “gangsta” on one or more than one party) on Katie Holmes.

It’s been reported that Katie Holmes uses Tom Cruises’ private jet to take monthly shopping trips to Paris for her alleged crazy ass shopping addiction. Often on these trips she’ll spend upwards to 200,000 dollars (ps. way more money than I ever have, and probably will ever see) on various articles of clothing. A quick trip to terrapass.com showed me that a round trip from Los Angeles to Paris dumps over 4000 pounds of Co2 into the environment.

Katie, I’M DYING HERE!!!!! Seriously woman-grab a catalog, go on the internet, visit your local mall…just stop “fueling” your debutante shopping habit with actual fuel.

Lance Armstrong Encourages Bike Commuting in Austin

Looks like Lance Armstrong is bringing biking back - and not for the hard core gear heads. In an effort to promote the commuter bike lifestyle in his home town of Austin, Armstrong is unveiling plans for a new concept shop that helps bring a viable transportation solution to the explosive growth that the downtown is experiencing.

Mellow Johnny’s, based on the nickname Armstrong earned while wearing the yellow jersey, will serve as a bike shop, commuting center, training facility and cafe. Showers and a locker room will provide commuters a chance to clean up, store their bikes at the shop, and catch a ride on a pedicab or walk the rest of the way to work.

According to Armstrong and business partner Bart Knaggs,

“This city is exploding downtown. Are all these people in high rises going to drive everywhere? We have to promote (bike) commuting., says Armstrong. “There’s a bigger ambition we’re going to go for here. It’s not like there’s not a good bike shop in town. We want to add something to the community that will catalyze interest around riding bikes, about being bike friendly and folding it into life in Austin,” Knaggs said.

With the support of his home town and the optimism of rookie riders citywide, this could be the catalyst to making Austin, Texas a true bike commuter city.
