Gore And Friends Make Their Case For Dot Eco Domain

Filed under: green and famous, web — Michael Andre d'Estries @ 8:17 pm

goreeco

Al Gore and a group of other environmental notables are making a hard push to see the creation of a “.eco” top-level domain added to those already present like .com, .net, org, and .edu. Down in Syndey, ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) is having their annual conference, and the Dot Eco LLC group has brought a short film with them promoting the creation of the new domain.

Granted, calling this a “film” might be a little generous. It’s more a collection of talking heads saying why the domain would be great for the world. Gore makes the first appearance in the short (watch it here) which also includes Jim Moriarty, CEO of Surfrider Foundation, director Davis Guggenheim, Sierra Club’s Carl Pope, Physics Professor Richard Muller, and Oceanic Engineer Jim Dufour.

MNN (Mother Nature Network) co-founder and keyboardist for the Rolling Stones, Chuck Leavell, sat in with Jimmy Fallon’s band on last night’s show — and he even managed to score a plug for the site. The two-time Georgia Tree Farmer of the Year started the online green site back in January — and we’re happy to see them get some promo from Fallon. Check out the video below:

Jason Mraz Wants To Stop Saving The World And Create A New One

Meanwhile, his new solar array continues to take shape...

Filed under: music, web — Michael Andre d'Estries @ 9:21 pm

mrazJason Mraz has keyed another blog entry on his Freshness Factor Five Thousand blog — the artist’s tagged “Conversation Station” — and with this one, he wonders aloud whether saving the world is actually worth it. Would we, perhaps, be better off just creating a new one? He writes,

“Maybe we should stop trying to save the world. After all, the world I grew up in is soiled with bigotry and homophobia, war upon war, pollution, hunger and poverty. Who wants to save that? Some people do. Some people fear change. And they will fight others and pollute the earth in order to not have to change, to cling to what they’re used to. ”

“What if instead of saving the world – we say we are creating a new one? Last years rally for change in the Obama campaign was a preview of what we’re capable of. By simply trying on new ideas and being okay with letting go of old routines, we can cause an amazing shift on this planet.”

Mraz then goes on to say that we should let go of things we cling to that prevent us from moving forward. Simplifying our lives, while giving those random things away to those less fortunate, recycling, etc. He’s also been inspired by the Humanifesto over at The Superforest. It’s main theme is that good manners are the key to saving the planet. Be kind to others, have that spread, and the world will naturally right itself. It’s a nice, short read.

Also — the singer’s new solar array construction is making progress. Just as we would be (if we had the cash), the guy is totally psyched to tap into the sun. Check out his full entry here.

Al Gore Passes One Million Twitter Followers, Says “Wow”

Filed under: web — Michael Andre d'Estries @ 3:13 pm

gore_twitter

Al Gore has done it.

The former Vice-President passed the one million mark in Twitter followers earlier this morning; placing him in such fine company as Ashton Kutcher, Oprah, John Mayer, and Britney Spears.

Gore was in a sprint to the finish against none other than gossip blogger Perez Hilton — who, as of this writing, was about 11,000 away from a million. The regularly reserved tweeter, Gore broke out with “So close to 1,000,000 followers. Help put me over the top.” last night and then gushed “Wow 1,000,000 followers, thank you.” after reaching the milestone. We’re expecting the next tweet to be something like “@PerezHilton, how do u like them apples beyotch?”

Congrats to @algore! If you would like to help propel us to .010% of Gore’s following, please jump here to drfit with Ecorazzi through the Twitterverse.

It’s Al Gore VS Perez Hilton In Race To One Million Twitter Followers

Filed under: web — Michael Andre d'Estries @ 2:24 pm

algore_perezhilton

Ever since Oprah and Ashton Kutcher turned the media spotlight on Twitter, a Precambrian explosion of sorts has occurred on the social media site, drastically increasing the number of followers for some notable names. Al Gore’s dramatic rise in peeps probably shows off this trend better than most. Back in November, the former VP had just 22,000 followers. Today, Gore is standing at around 982,000 — and growing. In the last week alone, he’s added over 30,000 followers.

Hot on his heels, however, is none other than Perez Hilton. The celebrity blogger has just over 972,000 followers. But that’s just about where the similarities end. Gore uses Twitter sparingly — having updated his tweets a measly 38 times over the last seven months. True to form, Hilton has updated more than 4,500 times in the last five months.

Who will make it to one million followers first? Sure, this contest lacks the amusing bite that Kutcher and CNN injected with their earlier competition, but we’ll be watching regardless. Look for TheOnion — with 959,000 followers — to play spolier.

VIDEO: Corporate Leaders Join Prince Charles In Urging Protection Of Rainforests

Get ready to gush.

Remember a couple weeks back when celebs like Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Robin Williams, and others hooked up with Prince Charles for a video promoting Rainforest protection? Well, the Prince is back — this time with something a bit drier: Corporate Leaders! <Swoon>

Sure, these behemoths of the business world aren’t much to get excited over, but their companies certainly have an impact on our world — and getting them on-board to help promote Rainforest protection is a good move by Charles’ foundation. You’ll see Sir Richard Branson (Chairman of Virgin Group), Sir Howard Stringer (CEO of Sony), Justin King (CEO of Sainsbury’s), Steve Easterbrook (CEO of McDonalds UK) and Eric Schmidt (Chairman and CEO of Google) amongst others. Like before, they’ve all got a digital frog sitting close by. Check it out below:

Calling All Green Screenwriters: New Forum To Sell Your Stuff

Filed under: campaigns, web — Michael Parrish DuDell @ 12:58 pm

picture-3

Do you have a fan-tas-great screenplay that you just, just, just have to share with the world?! Yeah, well get it line!

Each year indigent writers all over the country print out nearly 180 million sheets of paper in an effort to sell their big idea. That’s a lot of trees, yo!

Good news for you that  there’s finally a way to exercise that creativity without revving up the chainsaw.

GreenWriter.org is a new service with one specific goal: provide a place for screenwriters to freely upload their work paper-free. We like!

Not only will this service help save countless resources, but Green Writer creator Daniel Riser also hopes it will serve as a global platform to connect good writers with movie-makers. He says:

“There is a huge brick wall separating actors (even A list) from great material because of self-interest groups within the studio system, Riser said. Greenwriter.org tears down that wall by marketing directly to actors to find screenplays written specifically for them.”

What do you think about this idea? Could this be the future of script selling? Chime in and share your thoughts!

Casual Mafia Drops The Green Beats With New In My Prius Rap Video

"Ya won't see me ever hit E with my MPGs..."

Filed under: video, web — Michael Andre d'Estries @ 11:29 am

inmyprius

The Prius has been glorified through just about every media format possible.  But truly, Casual Mafia’s new “In My Prius” rap video takes it to a whole new level. It’s creative, catchy, and hilarious. Here’s are some sample lyrics:

“Cruisin’ down the street in my ‘04
Obama bumper sticker and so much more
When I lost it all in the Madoff scheme
The market sank, they repossessed by Beam
I thought ‘What can I do, have I lost my game?’
And now I’m Cru-Cru-Cruising in the carpool lane!”

Check, check, check it below:
