Actor Roger Moore recently teamed up with PETA to convince Selfridges  – a well-known chain in Britian — to stop selling Foie Gras. As many already know, Foie Gras is raised by force-feeding ducks and geese until their livers become enlarged. Moore even sent a private letter to Selfridges’ owner, offering to buy the company’s entire remaining stock if Weston agreed never to restock it again. Way to go, Roger!

The Vikings’ cheerleaders and Miss Minnesota are getting their eco on this weekend at the Minneapolis Go Green Expo — the nation’s leading eco-focused, interactive, and educational showcase.

As part of their new environmental improvements, the Vikings’ cheerleaders will be giving away merchandise to fans, including an autographed Jared Allen jersey and numerous other prizes.  Miss Minnesota will also be on site to speak about the importance of sustainability and the many ways you can go green.

Earlier this month, we told you that Stella McCartney had teamed up with Gap to produce a new line of kids clothing. Of course Stella would never use leather or fur, so we knew the line would not only be stylish, but cruelty-free as well.

This week, actress and mother of 1,000, Angelina Jolie was spotted taking her daughter Shiloh to shop the collection.

According to Stylecaster.com:

“After picking up two complete outfits right off the mannequins, Angelina purchased a bunch of Gap watches for the rest of the Brangelina crew.”

On November 3, mayors, movie stars and mover and shakers in the California green community gathered for the launch of the “California Green Community Challenge”, the Environmental Media Association’s collaboration with Southern California Edison, Green Seal and the Institute for Local Government.

The state wide challenge is bringing together 10 California towns and their local governments to compete for Green Seal recognition as a “California Green Community” by 2012. The objective is to ignite a nationwide initiative to preserve our natural environment by awarding participating towns with silver, gold or platinum seals.

The press conference was held on the Sony Pictures back lot, one of the greenest studios in LA, highlighting the central role that Hollywood and the EMA will play in sponsoring this initiative.

EMA Board Members Amy Smart, Frances Fisher and Daryl Hannah were there to introduce several of the participating mayors and speak on their involvement with EMA and this initiative. All three seemed very enthusiastic and I will report that there were a few whoops and cheers from the duo of Frances and Daryl in the row behind me when they were particularly inspired. It’s great to hear people so excited for a municipal eco-challenge and their commitment to an initiative like this is proof that they are pretty true believers since this was less red carpet and more civic duty.

Amy Smart told Ecorazzi that she hopes this challenge will inspire other mayors across the country to go green. She also divulged that she’s been reading The Omnivore’s Dilemma as well as The Kind Diet right now. I’m not sure what recipes ‘Razzi readers are loving right now but Amy’s partial to Alicia’s mom’s granola and the squash and aduki beans.

Daryl Hannah had her veggie hat on, cracking a joke about a partially visible billboard for “Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs” that framed only the word “MEATBALLS” above the podium. “You can’t see it,” she said, “but behind that other building it says VEGGIE!” If only, Daryl…

Iron Chef is playing in Michelle Obama’s garden and we think it’s just swell!

The popular Food Network program has taped a special episode using produce from the White House garden to help promote local and organic food. The episode will also feature Mrs. Obama discussing her crusade to reduce childhood obesity through better school lunches, community gardens, farmers’ markets and exercise.

Mario Batali, perhaps not the most health-conscious man in America, told the New York Times:

“What’s exciting for us is this is the first time I can remember the White House taking an active interest in doing something about diet and health. They understand this kind of P.R.”

He continued, “If we don’t do something about how kids eat soon, it will be simply the largest problem facing this country.”

The show will premiere Jan. 3 on the Food Network, with Cristeta Comerford, the White House executive chef, and Bobby Flay going up against the combined forces of Mario Batali and Emeril Lagasse.

In a pretty hilarious split screen Formidable Opponent segment, Colbert started off by interviewing himself and then introduced the former Vice President to chime in. Gore shared this piece of information:

Bob Barker is stepping up to the plate once again and getting involved in animal welfare issues.

Barker recently donated $1 million to Drury University to establish the Dorothy Jo Barker Professorship in Animal Rights. The program, which is named after his late wife, will offer intense course study on animal issues like cruelty and philosophy.

Barker told OzarksFirst.com:

“What we’re doing here today is something they’re going to be talking about all across the country. At the very least, the young people who take this course will have more respect for animals.”

Director Roland Emmerich’s new disaster movie 2012 is about to hit theaters — and as the Mother Nature Network recently found out, there was an effort to keep the $260 million dollar film as green as possible.

Emmerich, who drives a hybrid and powers his home with solar panels, said “After making The Day After Tomorrow, I said to myself, ‘From now on my movies should have a green footprint.’”

For the production of 2012, carbon offsets were purchased, biofuel was used for generators, sets were recycled and what couldn’t be recycled was donated to Habitat for Humanity. Said Emmerich’s producer partner Michael Wimer, who also drives an all-electric RAV4 “It was important to us. Changes are happening to the planet, and you either take responsibility or you don’t.”

So far, early reviews of the film are playing up its unintentional comedic attributes — saying, it’s so bad, it’s good. “Emmerich supposedly spent $260m to give you the biggest experience for your ticket dollar and in this regard, he has succeeded tremendously, while, intentionally or otherwise, also delivering one of 2009’s best comedies,” said one critic.

Aw, what the hell — we could use a good laugh; especially if Woody Harrelson’s conspiracy-nut character turns out to be as ass-crazy hilarious as he looks online.

2012 opens November 13th.
