By all accounts in the media, American Idol’s second-annual “Idol Gives Back” appears to have been a complete success. Last year’s show raised a staggering $76 million — and producers are expecting last night’s event to be even larger. “We’re going to make over $100 million this year. I can feel it,” American Idol executive producer Nigel Lythgoe told the audience at Hollywood’s Kodak Theatre. Final numbers are expected shortly.

Ugly Betty star America Ferrera has been tapped to host the third annual Hot in Hollywood charity event in LA August 16 to benefit the AIDS Healthcare Foundation and Real Medicine, a disaster relief organization. Ferrera told US Magazine, “I bought a table the first year with friends and had so much fun watching the performances. Performing in the second year was an honor and a ton of fun… I can’t wait to host this year’s event. This is a cause dear to my heart.” [via US Magazine]

Actress Gwyneth Paltrow was in attendance Monday night at the 2008 Can-Do Awards Dinner for the Food Bank for New York City. The gala couldn’t come at a better time for the organization — which is struggling to keep shelves stocked. “What that means is that there’s less food in food pantries and soup kitchens around the city, and you literally have people standing in line for hours at a time waiting for food, only to be turned away because the food runs out,” said a spokesperson. The Little Miss Sunshine star created a “swear box” on the set of her new film Nim’s Island and gave the cash to the charity organization called Royal Society For The Prevention Of Cruelty To Animals (RSPCA).
