The Green Quote: Alec Baldwin Messes With The New Yorker

Filed under: green and famous — michael @ 11:51 am

“In East Hampton, I’m a nudist and I eat meat,” Baldwin—a vegetarian—had said before my visit, expanding on the idea that he lived a quite different life on Long Island than he did in New York. “I shoot deer with a bow and arrow. I smoke the deer meat and eat it every morning with my eggs and toast. I am a homosexual. I listen to rock music, loud.” We had met at his house. Baldwin was wearing sandals; his shirt was untucked. There was nobody else at home.

Alec Baldwin Helps NYC Homeless Group With Public Service Announcement

Filed under: campaigns, film-tv, television — parrish @ 11:06 am

Alec Baldwin always surprises me with his sheer level of coolness!! He’s an outspoken vegetarian, an environmental activist and now he’s lending his voice to a public service announcement that aims to help reduce homelessness in New York City.

In the PSA released by the Coalition for the Homeless — a charity blasting Bloomberg’s follow-through on a 2004 pledge to slash the number of homeless New Yorkers — Baldwin reminds us that, “over 40,000 New Yorkers will go to sleep homeless tonight.”

While the city Department of Homeless Services vows the homeless population in NYC is shrinking, the coalition disagrees and will televise the PSA on various networks to bring more attention to the problem.

It doesn’t look like the video has been released yet, but to check out more videos produced by the organization, visit coalitionforthehomeless.org

Alec Baldwin Offers To Lend A Hand In Ending Horse Cruelty

Filed under: animals, film-tv, movies — michael @ 9:39 pm

Last night, Alec Baldwin hosted an event for PETA in NYC to address the cruelty of the horse-drawn carriage scene. Shown at the event was the new documentary Blinders, which provides a look at the “living hell” horses endure. From the article,

“Forced to spend their days breathing in exhaust fumes, walking on hard pavement, and risking their lives because of weather extremes and idiotic NYC drivers that somehow passed their driver’s tests, these horses are prevented from doing anything that is natural and important to them. Moss began to record the daily lives and living conditions of horses pulling carriages in and around Central Park after noticing the onslaught of recent injuries to horses in the carriage industry.”

Alec Baldwin insists he’s not interested in banning the trade, but he’d be willing to donate some good cash if the city would guarantee improved living conditions for the animals. “I don’t have a problem with the carriage trade. If they remove all the cars in Manhattan, and build a farm with an acre of land for each horse to graze, I will invest my own money. Passions run high in this issue… It’s loud and vulgar because they know they are wrong.”

That acre of land might be tough - but removing cars from Manhattan? No problem. Get that check ready, Alec.

The Green Quote: Alec Baldwin Has A Sexy Star Trek Idea

“I once pitched a show to (Fox president of entertainment) Kevin Reilly. I told him I wanted to bring back space travel on TV, like “Star Trek,” but that I wanted to have sex in the space capsule and get really adult. In the show, the space capsule will have left Earth, and because of global warming, the Earth is dying. I’m the commander of this ship and I say, “We can never go back!” So Reilly is sitting there listening very patiently and finally says, “Well, we’re never going to do that.”

Alec Baldwin during a roundtable discussion of television with several other actors and The Hollywood Reporter.

(To which Rainn Wilson replied, “I would love to have sex in outer space.” )

Would you watch Alec Baldwin’s “Sex Trek” TV series?

I Heart Tap Water Contest Brings Out Wisdom In Alec Baldwin

Filed under: campaigns, contests, food & drink, green and famous, thegreenpicture — parrish @ 2:04 pm

Can I tell you something? I don’t drink tap water. Oh God, does this make me totally unqualified to write for Ecorazzi? In fact, I am a total bottled water snob! And even though people tell me New York tap water is clean, I still avoid it like the plague.  But it’s Valentine’s Day, a day for love, and so perhaps I will follow the crowd of students who are all yelling at me to declare my love for the natural stuff and take a swig of the old faucet juice.

Yes friends, today on Valentine’s Day, students from across the country are declaring their love for tap water in the celebrity-judged I Heart Tap Water student video contest. The I Heart Tap Water contest asks students to make a one to two minute video which should include these three important parts: a declaration of love for tap water, some discussion about bottled water consumption, and why the student’s college or university should break the bottled water habit.

Celebrity judge, Alec Baldwin has said “Bottled water is not as environmentally friendly as people think it is.” Wait a tick, who thinks bottle water is eco-friendly? Yes, I drink it, but I know it’s not environmentally responsible and thus flog myself for it in private.  Alec, I think you’re awesome, but your insight lacks insight.

So practice what I preach and not what I do by getting involved with the I Heart Tap Water contest. Submissions will be accepted until Monday, April 14th, and the winner of the contest will be announced on Earth Day, April 22nd. For more information and contest rules, drink your way over to takebackthetap.org.

On a side note: Happy Valentine’s Day Ecorazzi readers…let’s go steady!

Razzi Snap: Alec Baldwin, Jason Priestley Push For Water Conservation

Filed under: campaigns, green and famous, not green, web — michael @ 10:46 am

splashnews_jkca070105n_02_.jpgAlec Baldwin, Justin Trudeau and Jason Priestley recently joined several other celebrities in raising money for the Robert Kennedy Jr. Waterkeeper Alliance at the Fairmont Banff Springs Celebrity Sports Invitational. Said Baldwin, “You (Canada) have so much of what people want here … Don’t do what other people have done, don’t do what the U.S. did, which is to put off until tomorrow what should be done today — protect the resources.” [via jam!]

flowerI consider noise pollution a pretty minor offense for one-time bashes, but environmental officers (they really exist!) in England have not taken lightly reports that Heather Mills upset neighbors with her 40th Birthday party last month in East Sussex. Apparently, Mills’ loud partying angered neighbors and prompted them to make official complaints to the local council. Said one officer, “We received four complaints about noise from loud music and a generator.” Ah, but was that generator running on biodiesel? <grin> [via starpulse]

flowerGreenIsSexy, the environmental website started by actress Rachel McAdams and two of her friends, has a new addition in the form of some ‘eco’ postcards sent by the ladies from around the world. I’m not sure if this is new - or if I just missed it — but we get such insights as Rachel skipping on showers, marveling at Chicago’s green roofs, and reusing yogurt cups. I love her. [via greenissexy]

flowerFinally, actor Jim Carrey was spotted in Yorkville, Toronto wearing a “Bummer” t-shirt. For those of you that haven’t seen this one, below those words is a big, hulking picture of a Hummer. You can check out a picture of the tee and grab your own here. [Thanks, Scot!]
