This coming October in Los Angeles, the first-annual Noble Awards will take place honoring charities and the celebrities that support them. Ten non-profit charity organizations will be honored during the Noble Awards ceremony; including The Art of Elysium, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, DoSomething.org and The Epilepsy Foundation.

According to the official (and lite-on-details) website, the show will blend live musical entertainment with celebrity appearances; providing “an international platform to bring awareness of non-profits and their causes to the greater public.” Looktothestars.org drops some tidbits that Alicia Keys and Heroes’ Greg Grunberg will be involved — as well as the interesting note that Antonia Banderas designed the NOBLE award.

We have no official list as of yet which celebrities will be honored, but the website appears to hint at Jessica Biel and Jamie Lee Curtis getting some love. The show will run October 18th, so look for more right here as we get it.

I remember speaking with an NBC executive after the network’s first green week back in November of last year, when the topic of Sunday Night Football came up. “Oh that,” he said. “We got absolutely creamed for that.” What he was lamenting was SNF’s decision to dim the studio lights, fire up some candles, and have Bob Costas and Co. sit in the dark talking about energy conservation — all the while advertising monitors and other bright marketing banners continued on. “It wasn’t what we intended — but it came across as greenwashing. It’s something we’ll avoid in the future,” he said.

Well, that future has arrived and NBC is once more planning for a week-long block of green programming. I’m pleasantly surprised that they’re embarking on another round only six months later — and if the above conversation is any indication, we’ll see a stronger effort this time round. But it’s not just the TV shows that will be getting greener — NBC Universal is also installing a solar array at the company’s movie studios in California, as well as eliminating all plastic foam from cafeterias corporate-wide.

What should you expect in terms of programming? CFTK gives us the low-down:

“As part of “Earth Week,” Dateline NBC and the Today show will feature environmental-related stories and features, and Today will air a special live “Earth Week” concert by Alicia Keys on Monday (April 21st). Cable network MSNBC will report on the presidential candidates’positions on environmental issues. Longtime environmental activist Ed Begley Jr. will be a guest on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, while Last Call with Carson Daly will feature guest Darryl Hannah in a segment about organic skateboards and surf companies, midnight gardeners and other ways young people are getting involved in green causes.”

I have no idea if some of your favorite TV Shows will also get the ‘green theme’ this time ’round, but as I’ve said before, it will be even cooler when it isn’t some kind of theme week and you spot something eco-friendly.

Bring on the green peacock — and bravo NBC for taking another stab at this.

Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. The Norwegian event (sounds cold) was hosted by Kevin Spacey and Uma Thurman with performers such as Kylie Minogue, Alicia Keys, Annie Lennox and Melissa Etheridge.

Thurman explained, “The whole point is to raise awareness and communicate with everyone else in the world and share our concern for the planet.” Meanwhile, Kevin Spacey, the artistic director for London’s Old Vic Theatre, announced that next year they’ll be doing a show called, Go For Green, which is aimed to teach young children how to lead greener lives.

It’s no secret that celebrities are society’s trendsetters, and I’m always so impressed when I see some of my favorite actors and musicians going beyond the call of duty to stand up for a cause that’s oh so important. Now if you’ll excuse me, this boy is gonna go home and watch Kill Bill for the twenty-third time.

The 18-year old was interviewed by Blender magazine and when asked whether or not he wore underwear or went commando (a natural question…), he replied, “Underwear. I wear a new pair of drawers every day. I won’t wash my drawers and put ’em back on. I just throw them away.” Hmm..we think those are called diapers, Chris. Obviously, you’re still a little too young mentally to understand your impact. Thankfully, there are quite a few toddlers out there with reuseables that could probably teach you the difference. [via just jared]

The event will honor this year’s winners, former U.S. Vice President Al Gore and the U.N.’s climate change panel. Joining Minogue will be Alicia Keys, Annie Lennox, Juanes and Melissa Etheridge. Hosting the gig are Uma Thurman and Tommy Lee Jones. More than 100 countries will tune in for the event. The former V.P. plays a hybrid cab driver in the year 2012 that happily accepts a $100 offer from a time-traveling killer robot to race through the streets of Long Island. Yup. When Gore loses the robot (by way of hitting a dump truck and sending him flying) he mutters, “Dang. That $100 could have bought me one gallon of gas.” And I thought $3.50 for a gallon was nasty. Look closely and you’ll also notice Gore’s license plate reads, NOCO2.
