You know how your car seems to run better just after a car wash? Well, there’s a similar conceit with women…we work better when we’re all dolled up! EcoStiletto knows that, so they hosted their 1st ever charity event, the Green Girls’ Night Out fundraiser for Dress for Success, an awesome organization that helps disadvantaged women gain financial independence through professional attire and career development. Their slogan says it all, Suits to Self-Sufficiency!

Rachel Lincoln Sarnoff, ecoista and Founder of EcoStiletto, wanted to take the idea of a clothing swap to a new level, so she organized the drop and shop event which took place at West LA’s celeb haven, Intuition. Participants dropped off a TON (as in 6 shopping carts full!!!) of accessories such as purses, necklaces, scarves, belts…and then shopped for eco-fashions personally selected for the store and website by Rachel. Intuition got in on the goodness by donating 10% of the night’s sales to Dress for Success.

Rachel thought that if she could get people together to donate their clothing to someone they don’t know — someone whose life might change dramatically because she has a purse or a necklace that completes her outfit and makes her feel confident enough to walk into a job interview and nail it — then it would be incredibly rewarding for everyone. And it was!

Also being rewarded (for starting young) was high school student, Ally Maize, who was on hand to talk about her nonprofit, Green Youth Movement. Ally said her goal is to educate kids all over the world about living green, and to get this important information in school curriculums.

Some of the usual suspects such as the always gracious Anna Getty and Sarah Jane Morris from the TV show Brothers & Sisters were on hand to shop, drink those delish organic cocktails from Bash Eco-Events and munch on some free-range bites by FOOD

For those who just got laid off, there were perks (beyond the Prarie Organic Vodka and Dry Soda) for the taking. The Healing Seed gave yummy hand massages with their gorgeous spring lavender hand cream while Perfect Organics freshened up cheek and lip color with their perfectly organic, vegan line of lip and cheek shimmer that smells like mint chocolate chip ice cream! This blogger was dolled up with their DC (as in Washington, DC) color and looked as fresh as a daisy when they were done. And she’s still workin’ it.

Tracy Metro (and yes, Metro IS her real name!) is a TV host who was eco-chic before eco and chic were even hyphenated! Wanna learn more about this eco-conut? Grab a fare card and go for a ride at www.tracymetro.com

Celebrities in attendance included Quincy Jones, Jenny McCarthy, Anna Getty and Jenna Elfman. Also roaming around with a camera, and no doubt thrilled to see such an event happening, was director of Who Killed The Electric Car?, Chris Paine.

So far, only 4 cars have managed to roll off the production line — so that means Pitt, Clooney, Damon, and Schwarzenegger will have to wait a bit longer for their electric fix. Automobile Mag has a bit more on the retail plans for the company,

“Located in Los Angeles, Tesla’s first dealer – actually a factory outlet – occupies 10,000 square feet along Santa Monica Boulevard. Carrying a price tag of nearly $2 million, the store portrays an airy, industrial feel, thanks in part to concrete floors, visible ductwork, and colorful illumination. That appearance will expand as Tesla opens five stores across the country over the next year. An outlet at its Menlo Park, Calif. headquarters should be open in the summer, while properties in New York, Miami, Seattle and Chicago could be functional by 2009.”

There’s some pretty crappy video over on Autobloggreen that almost looks like someone shot it with a cameraphone — but if you’re the tiniest bit interested in seeing what went down the other nigh, jump here to have a look.

Ed note: This post comes to us from our new west coast contributor, the fabulous Tracy Metro. Check out her awesome website here.

Green heiress and holistic expert, Anna Getty, has apparently deemed May Pregnancy Awareness Month (PAM) since it’s the month most often associated with mothers and fertility… I mean… Mother’s Day DOES fall in this month, after all! To kick it off on May 1st, Anna hosted a laid-back PAM shindig in honor of mothers and expecting mothers at the Skirball Center in Los Angeles. I was there and was happy to see quite a few eco-minded celebrity moms (and even a few dads) in attendance.

Fresh out of the stirrups toting along 7 week old son, Braden, Melissa Joan Hart told the Razz that her drug-free birth was made possible with the help of hypno-birthing classes. However, she said “natural childbirth isn’t right for everyone.” Hart may make no judgments on how you get the kid out… but I’d like to ask that to a few woman as they are actually pushing an 11 lb bowling ball through their vajayjays.

The very sexy Brooke Burke credits her trés hot post-pregnancy body to her very own line of belly wraps, called Baboosh Baby. Apparently, everyone around the world wraps their bellies after pregnancy except US mommies. Brook says “it’s an age old concept” that wasn’t being represented in the US, so she started the line in 2007.

Diane Farr, expectant mommy of twins and star of NUMB3RS, shared with the Razz that before she purchases her next car to tote around the impending brood, she and Dr Paul Song (Lisa Ling’s husband) are trying to figure out how much radiation is emitted from hybrid car batteries. Oy, as if I wasn’t paranoid enough! My husband and I each have a Prius, so she better find out soon!

Keep reading to see photos and find out who else showed up!

Anna secretly divulged that she is a bit “obsessed with Al Gore!” and that she’s “on a mission to serve his mission.” The event was a bit of a family affair when Anna’s brother, Balthazar Getty, star of Brothers and Sisters showed up. He too, is a greenie and explained that he doesn’t feel the need to “wear a green shirt” to be environmental. “Just do what you do,” he says.

Lastly, I must say, Ecorazzi got quite a nice reception from model and last season’s Dancing with the Stars cast-off, Josie Maran. “I LOVE Ecorazzi!” she professed. Well, this reporter loves HER, as she gave me samples of her new line of paraben and petrochemical free makeup, aptly named Josie Maran . Might I suggest the ladies try out the cream blush, which is, of course, sold in corn-derivative packaging? Now that’s what I call being naturally beautiful!

Well then the Green Initiative Show at LA Fashion Week would have been just your cup of organic, shade grown, fair trade tea.

The Green Initiative Show was dreamt up by Mikey Koffman from The Gallery Los Angeles and helped spotlight some of today’s hottest eco-fashion. Now we all know that green fashion is like a celebrity magnet, and this event was no different. Celebs like Amy Smart, Anna Getty, and Shar Jackson were rumored to have been perched in the front row simply drooling over the green garb.

Here’s what the designers had to offer:

M the Movement designed by Simplicio Michael Luis gave you jeans, sweaters, tailored shirts, and jackets, all made of sustainable materials. Lady Muse by Mathilde, presented Edwardian-inspired, limited edition “desposyni” coats constructed from “rescued fabrics.” Andria Rain Tees helps support the Costa Rican rain forest with their signature gear that they so proudly paraded down the catwalk. Barbara Boswell impressed with outfits made of bamboo, soy, organic cotton, and linen. Finally, Rene Geneva Design rocked corset-based eveningwear, satin dresses, and micro minis, all designed with handmade organic textiles.

Well sketch me down, cut me out and box me up…I’m sold! Let’s all say a collective thanks to those eco-designers and to Mikey Koffman from The Gallery Los Angeles for working so hard on such a groovy fashion show. THANK. YOU.
