First up was Kanye West — who was named to PETA’s “Worst Dressed” list for 2009. The rapper is getting ready to launch a new line of clothing under the brand name “Past Tell” and reportedly was inspired by McCartney’s use of animal-free products. Afterwards, E! online reports that Kanye put his name down to receive information from PETA on animal-free fabrics and accessories that he might use in his own line of clothing. Both Pink and Dan Matthews of PETA were seen chatting up the rapper on the issue.

The other surprise? Matthews was also spotted chatting with Anna Wintour — the British fashion editor & the editor-in-chief of American Vogue, and long-time PETA symbol of animal-cruelty in the industry. Would love to have heard what weas being discussed between those two — but great to see that Wintour was at least taking in Stella’s new collection.

Model Raquel Zimmermann is seen walking through the streets of Paris, wearing fur and leather while “sticking it to PETA protesters.”

Is this the photo-spread’s stylist, Carine Roitfeld, way of sticking up for American Vogue editor Anna Wintour, who gets no PETA love (and rightfully so)?

I personally am not a fan – but what do you think? Is this just a way for the French Vogue to push some buttons and drum up some controversy, is it their way of sticking up for the American Vogue, or is this their way of showing that fur in the fashion industry is coming to an end?

Note to self: when attending a chic, invite-only fashion show in downtown New York, one should not assume that a bathroom will be just readily available. This would be one of the many lessons I’d learn this afternoon while reinventing the pee-pee dance at the Rodarte fashion show, sponsored by Lexus Hybrid Living.

Bladder issues aside, the show was fan-frigin-tastic, and Lexus was an incredible host. As I stepped out of my limo (ok, I walked) and approached the front door, a camera man asked, “I work for a fashion magazine. Can I take your picture for our street fashion issue?” Never having been asked that question in my life (I dress like a writer), I happily obliged and quickly attempted to hide the small ketchup stain just above my left pocket.

Once inside, I met fellow Ecorazzi contributor, Melissa Rosenberg and we got our seats for the festivities. Right away, I caught the glance of model/co-host of America’s Most Smartest Model, Mary Alice Stephenson, and made sure to give her my best “Pick me, pick me” smile. Needless to say, she did not pick me. Next, I spotted the world famous editor of Vogue, Anna Wintour (aka the inspiration for Meryl Streep’s character in The Devil Wears Prada).

The show featured beautiful eco-friendly clothes designed by Rodarte, and was the second installment of Lexus’ Hybrid Living series, which combines eco-design with luxury standards. In the spirit of green, the gift bags-courtesy of Lexus-were made out of used Lexus billboards and stuffed with products like a soy candle by Joya and a sustainable bambu. I was so impressed with Lexus’ “in it to win it” attitude, I made sure to chat it up with Kimberley Gardiner, Lexus’ Marketing Manager of National Advertising, on my way out.

After a quick interview, I knew that Lexus had made the right choice when they chose Kim for their spokesperson. Not only was she super dreamy, but a basic volcano of green information, and really proved to me that Lexus was serious about their commitment to a more eco-friendly world.

Hit more for the rest of the interview and some photos!

She explained that Lexus believes, “It’s more than just about the car you drive, but about the food you eat, what you wear, the places you travel and just really showcasing all of the eco-choices out there.” Of course the vegan in me jumped when said the word “food” and so I asked her to elaborate. “Lexus has 150 partners across the country which includes about 30 or 40 restaurants that are all committed to either locally grown, organic or grass fed food.” She then presented me with a great book (printed on recycled paper) that Lexus put together about the various green establishments they work with across the country, and added, “It’s all about education. We’re not trying to be something we’re not. We’re just trying to inspire people to see that there are more choices out there. We have a long way to go, but we’re working hard to help make a difference.”

Totally overjoyed with my eco-gift bag and new found fashion friends, I headed back to the mighty subway, where my luxurious lifestyle ended, and I once again joined the underground, workaday city dwellers that I’ve come to call “my people”. Thanks a million to Lexus and Rodarte for treating Melissa Rosenberg and myself to a great afternoon!
