Good news for all you Californians out there! Earlier this week, Annette Bening joined TreePeople — a Los Angeles-based environmental nonprofit — to celebrate the opening of the TreePeople Center for Community Forestry.

The four-acre, $10 million environmental educational campus is located in L.A.’s Coldwater Canyon Park and features a training classroom, a nursery for growing native plants, a watershed garden that teaches water harvesting and conservation, a LEED(R) platinum-certified conference center, and a 216,000-gallon underground cistern that stores rainwater collected from the buildings and Parking Grove for use in landscaping.

Each year the center will teach more than 70,000 visitors basic principles of how natural forests “work,” and simple ways to apply these principles in an urban setting to actively prevent – and protect against – climate change, water and air pollution, and water shortages. I mean, OKAY!

Benning said: “Forests have always been the life support systems for the planet. I’m inspired by TreePeople’s work in using trees as visible models of sustainability and helping to transform Los Angeles into a truly green city.”

If you’re as excited about this new community center as I am, visit treepeople.org and schedule yourself a visit today!
