Paris Hilton And Britney Spears: Pet Owners From Hell!!

Owning a pet is awesome. Owning two pets is awesome. Owning three pets, while mabye a lot of responisbilty, it’s still very awesome…if you’ve got what it takes. But when celebs start owning more than they can handle what kind of message does it send to the rest of the world?

Author Karen Dawn poses that question in Thanking the Monkey: Rethinking the Way We Treat Animals, and in it accuses notorious party pals Britney Spears and Paris Hilton of being awful role models to young pet owners.

Dawn tells the New York Post, “We’ve already seen Paris go through dogs faster than mojitos, and I bet nobody warned Britney that California might soon force drivers to keep dogs safely restrained in vehicles - like babies. An impulse purchase of a companion for the next 15 years? … Nobody expects them to have the dogs much longer than 15 months.”

At one point Spears had a small collection of chihuahuas, and well, Ecorazzi has reported numerous times on Paris’ personsal farm.

Spears Watches Idol, Decides To Charge $25K To Amex

If you were all choked up over the Idol Gives Back special last night, chances are you had good company. Britney Spears cried “for like two hours” over the children in Africa after watching the special on television. It prompted her, with permission, to whip out the credit card and make a big $25,000 donation. From the source,

“She did it all on her own. She watched the show and cried for like two hours over the children in Africa with malaria,” a Spears family insider tells Life & Style. “She didn’t know much about the disease, so she Googled it. She was horrified to realize kids were dying from mosquito bites. So she went online and donated after getting [her dad] Jamie’s permission. She used her Amex.”

Good on ya Brit — even if you’re just learning about the nastiness of malaria a little late in life.

Will Britney Spears Work for PETA?

I know, I know — we’ve been pulling your leg a lot today, but this story is for real.

Britney Spears has officially been offered a job working with the People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals. That’s right, PETA was so inspired by Spears’ recent secretary gig on How I Met Your Mother, that they’ve offered her a real job working as a receptionist in their office. 

PETA’s president, Ingrid Newkirk writes, “After seeing your excellent performance on How I Met Your Mother, PETA would like to offer you a real job as a receptionist. It could be for as little as an hour, and you would see - from the inside - why we are so concerned about issues like fur and homeless dogs and cats. As a ‘thank you’ for your willingness to learn and help, we would donate $1,000 to a children’s charity.”

Well Britney…how fast can you type?

Britney Spears Auctions Off Clothing For The Environment

Following her successful cameo on the popular television show How I Met Your Mother, Britney Spears has decided to auction off the clothes she wore on the recent episode. The bidding — which is currently above $2,500 for the entire wardrobe — will be on-going until the end of March. All proceeds from the sale of Brit’s swag will go towards the Natural Resources Defense Council. What’s not to love?

Britney Spears Giving Her Sister An Eco-Friendly Nursery

Britney Spears’ 16-year-old sister, Jaime Lynn, is expecting her first child — and the somewhat-famous singer couldn’t be more thrilled. She’s already reportedly spent $30,000 on lavish gifts and furniture for her future niece or nephew. From the article,

“A source close to the star said: “Petit Tresor is designing the nursery for Jamie Lynn’s baby in Kentwood, Louisiana. It has an ocean theme, and is going to have organic bedding and baby blankets.”

We applaud the green — but seriously question Britney’s contribution to the nursery. Added the source, “She also ordered a custom made, six-foot tall elephant with a blue bow which she wants to sit in the middle of the nursery.”

Because nothing says ocean-themed-nursery like a giant six-foot elephant.

PETA Blames Britney’s Diet For Her Mental Issues

Thank God PETA weighed in on the whole “Britney Spears Crisis”. I had it between them and the Pope as the next to explain to us why she’s suffering and how she can help herself. Their comments are particularly interesting — and they’ve gone so far as to send one of their famous letters to her parents. However, this one is termed ‘friendly’ and ‘helpful’. Here’s a bit of what will most likely end up in the garbage before gracing their eyes. From the thoughts of PETA President Ingrid Newkirk:

“We have heard that Britney asked for ice-cream while she was in the hospital. There could, in fact, be a connection between her diet and her mental-health problems. Numerous reports indicate that in bipolar patients who have hidden dairy sensitivities (a fairly common condition), the disorder can worsen if the patient consumes dairy products.

“And a significant body of research-including evidence cited by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention-has linked parasites that are often found in undercooked meat (Toxoplasma gondii) to the development of schizophrenia.”

The letter then goes on to say that Britney should immediately be placed on a Vegan diet to benefit her mental and physical health. Ingrid even includes a copy of PETA’s free “Vegetarian Starter Kit”. How kind.

We cover PETA consistently on this site and respect the efforts they take to make the world a better place for animals. However, this is one of those actions that only invites ridicule and senselessly exploits the troubles of another individual to push forward an agenda. This is over the top, plain and simple.

Celebrity Bel-Air Pet Shop Closed For Selling Unlicensed Dogs

Pets of Bel Air, a popular celebrity puppy emporium, has been exposed for operating without a license for over 3 years. The Humane Society of the United States lead the investigation and officially closed down the store yesterday afternoon for selling puppies from unlicensed mills, for at least $1,000.

The problem with these mills is that without a license there are no rules to govern how they treat their pets. Wayne Pacelle, president of the Humane Society of the United States stated, “Often, they’re run by farmers who raise soybeans and corn, and this becomes another, more lucrative cash crop for them. It often becomes a dominant source of income because no money is spent on the care of these dogs.”

Pets of Bel Air is famous for their celebrity pooch selling skills, and just recently provided Britney Spears a yorkie and Paris Hilton a Chihuahua. Other celebrities like Alicia Silverstone, Sarah Mclachlan and Mary Tyler Moore all get warm fuzzies for helping spread good examples by buying rescued dogs from local shelters. Plus, we all know I kinda have a crush on Alicia Silverstone.

Britney Spears Receives $30K Worth Of Fur For Birthday

Man, what can you say about Britney Spears these days? I’m not going to pretend to have a clue as to the personal details of her current difficulties, but publicly she seems to be spiraling further downward. How does it happen that someone like Kevin Federline is suddenly the “good parent” in this drama?

Alas, Britney turned 26 this past weekend and celebrated in grand-fashion at the Scandanavian Style Mansion in Bel Air, Calif. The former pop star (and I mean that — the sun has set, folks)  received $30,000 in fur coats, a $10,000 diamond and gold ring, $4,000 in Barito brand sunglasses and various t-shirts and hair products.

The $30K in fur coats might seem a little odd until you consider who was hosting the party:  None other than Sharon Stone. (Insert lightning, thunder)

Now, we’re going to approach this story with a little caution since some sites are reporting that Spears’s jacket is faux-fur while others believe it’s the real deal.  Sharon Stone’s history leaves very little to question, as she also arrived in a full-fur coat made from a pack of foxes.

In other fur news, dlisted is reporting that Sarah Jessica Parker was also seen sporting a fur jacket at screening of Revolver last night in NYC.
