I brag about my little city because we’ve been named the latest venue of the Peace One Day Concert!

The concert will take place on September 9th at the Nokia Theater and feature such artists as Annie Lennox, Bryan Adams, and Natasha Bedingfield. The event will also include clips from the documentary, The Day After Peace, and video messages from celebrities like Jude Law and Lenny Kravitz.

Peace One Day was started by Jeremey Gilley in 1999 to help shed light on non-violent solutions to global problems. Annie Lennox says, “We all have so much potential, but we don’t tend to realize it, so we take it for granted. The work of Peace One Day encourages and inspires people to think about we can all do, both at individual and ‘collective’ levels.”

Oh and check this out: as result of Peace One Day’s campaigning in 2007, 1.4 million Afghanistan children were vaccinated against polio, and 100 million people in 200 countries were engaged in Peace Day activities. WOW! Visit Ticketmaster.com to get your tickets!

After almost a month in prison, and massive international support, Japanese activists Junichi Sato and Toru Suzuki are out on bail.

The Japanese government sponsored whaling program was operating as a “scientific hunt” until it was revealed crew members were smuggling whale meat and selling it for personal profit. Cover up? The prosecutor has now dropped the case, and there will be no further investigation into this scandal. Greenpeace wants an independent investigation into this injustice of taxpayers money. Follow the scandal at the Greenpeace website.

KFC is offering the duo a free meal after they were caught kissing in one of it’s Florida chains.

KFC is a media whore so of course when they received the free endorsement the firm’s chief marketing officer, James O’Reilly, sent Rihanna a letter with an offer.

The letter reads: “Clearly, like our founder Colonel Sanders, you two know how to kick it up a few degrees. We could feel the heat – literally – in our restaurant that night. So much so that we’d like to invite you and Chris back to any KFC for a free meal.”

Oh and to show that KFC has a heart of gold (yeah, fools gold) O’Reilly promised to donate money to the children’s charity, Believe, if the couple would repeat their show of affection.

If you think I’m being overly harsh, visit KentuckyFriedCruelty.com and prepare for the worst. KFC is the pits and I hope that Rihanna and Chris Brown stop eating, promoting or in any way helping this hellified company!

Well at least Oscar-nominated actor Ryan Gosling sure would, and has joined the list of celebrity do-gooders that include Bryan Adams, Pamela Anderson and Ron Jeremy urging KFC to improve the conditions in their poultry slaughterhouses. KFC is notorious for the horrific manner in which they treat their chickens and their stubbornness to make any humane changes recommended by scientists and animal activists alike.

Gosling recently composed a letter on behalf of People For the Ethical Treatment of Animals to John Bitove, who oversees KFC Canada, asking him to stop the ongoing (and unnecessary) abuse of the chickens supplied to his restaurants.

Gosling writes, ”The time is ripe to do the right thing. By adopting the basic recommendations made by PETA and scientific experts (including raising birds in a more natural manner and employing less cruel slaughter methods), you could dramatically improve the lives and deaths of chickens raised and killed for KFC Canada.”

If you’d like to find out more about the horrific conditions KFC forces their chickens to endure, visit KentuckyFriedCruelty.com and by all means boycott KFC!!

There are so many potential Robin Hood allusions in this piece that I heard the collective groans even before I started typing.

Kevin Costner, star of the 1991 film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (at that moment every girl I knew was swooning over Bryan Adams) has joined in the fight to protect England’s Sherwood Forest from development and ruin. The actor wrote an email to back a campaign to preserve the woodland through a proposed $91 million grant from the U.K. Lottery fund. From the article,

“Costner’s email reads, ‘Sherwood Forest was a name I learned as a little boy. The surprise was being able to play the character Robin Hood. We know the legend and idea of Sherwood Forest. It is worth saving and preserving.’”

If the bid to preserve Sherwood Forest successfully wins lottery funding, the prize money will be used to create an eco-friendly visitors’ center and replant 250,000 trees. Other celebrities backing the cause include Jonas Armstrong, star of the BBC’s hit TV series Robin Hood, as well as Brian Blessed, who played Robin’s father Lord Locksley in Prince of Thieves — and incidentally, died in the first five minutes.

Now if they could just get the gang from Men In Tights in chip in….

To vote for the Sherwood Project and make its restoration a reality — click here!
