In the latest edition of her online wellness newsletter, Gwyneth Paltrow dishes on the stylish ways one can go green. This time, however, she’s not alone as the famous actress has also invited a Cameron Diaz to share some her favorite eco picks.

Paltrow’s list includes clothing from Stella McCartney, the book “Worldchanging“, the adorable Peapod transport vehicle, and chef Jamie Oliver’s Organic Pocket Seed Packs, among others. There’s also some recommendations for high-tech water filtration systems, a plug for GOOD magazine, and love for our friends over at Greenopia.

Diaz starts things on the right foot by giving a recommendation of some vegan shoes from Olsen Haus. “They are fun and sexy with a pair of skinny jeans,” she writes. “I like them for walking around the city when I want to wear heels during the day but need to have a sturdy pair that I can move quickly in.”

We also dig that Diaz recognized one of our fellow green sites, Inhabitat.com — as well as shouts for encouraging people to see the documentary FOOD, INC. and read The Omnivore’s Dilemma by Michael Pollan (though they definitely screwed up his first name by spelling it “Micheal”).

“Inspired by the annual TED conference that she’s attended—a kind of smarty-pants consortium dedicated to the spread of innovative ideas put forth by speakers like Bono, Al Gore, Jane Goodall, and Samantha Power—Diaz felt the urge to start a far-reaching conversation about the environment. ‘I was like, I’m going to get a camera, and I’m going to mobile-home it across the country, and I’m just going to find out what people are thinking. What would it take for the common person to become engaged?’—in the catastrophe that is the state of our natural resources. Most of all, she wants to help raise consciousness. ‘There’s a lot of great minds out there who are thinking about this,’ she says, who are coming up with solutions. Not to crash anybody’s party, but to actually make the party better.’ She laughs. ‘Really, that’s what it’s about—that’s my participation in it.’”

There aren’t too many celebrities that take it upon themselves to get out there and get people talking about the environment. Diaz is truly engaged in getting the issues front and center — though she admits it can be a bit of a depressing challenge.

“‘I’m sad,’ Diaz says later, in the car on the way to a Mexican joint for dinner. ‘It’s just sad.’ She drains a plastic water bottle and tosses it on the floor of the car. ‘And I’m unhappy about the waste I just produced.’ Diaz and Dylan, sitting next to her in the backseat, conclude that we as a people are summarily, environmentally ‘fucked.’ In fact, that quickly becomes the leitmotif of the trip, and it cracks them up every time. Diaz, out of the blue: ‘You know what we are?’ Dylan: ‘Let me guess—fucked?’”

I’m sure we’ve all thought that at one time or another.

By now, many of you have probably spied Cameron Diaz on the cover of this month’s Vogue. Besides the green color theme — and a bit spot on organic clothing star loyale — there’s very little in the issue besides Cameron’s interview to get treehuggers excited. Nevertheless, Diaz does open up about her efforts to get young people involved in conservation and the environment. Here’s a highlight:

She’s clearly not looking to be a poster girl for the environmental movement. She is there for the environment if it needs her, buying carbon offsets with no great fanfare, making ecologically sensitive shopping choices quietly and happily. She is trying hard not to preach or scold. Of her Prius she says, “It’s just a car.” She has had one for years, before they became (her dream come true) popular. “It’s just a choice people can make.”

One reader also sent in a note highlighting the belt that Diaz is wearing in her sexy photoshoot. Apparently, it’s made from a recycled fire hose — something I thought was pretty cool. “When the makers of these recycled belts met with the London Fire Brigade they instantly recognised the potential of the old, disused fire hose to make a great eco product. They scrubbed away all the soot, grease, and everything else that builds up after 25 years of active duty, and in the process discovered a truly remarkable, truly green textile.”

Cameron Diaz was a guest on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno last night — and the actress/environmentalist was keen to share her green passions.

She explained: “It’s one of those things that is just a lifestyle choice. I was brought up that way so it’s something that I automatically do. I’m rigged that way.”

Regarding green flushes (in what was obviously a pre-discussed question with Leno), Diaz said, “I do follow the, ‘If it’s yellow leave it mellow, if it’s brown flush it down’ saying. I believe in that 100 per cent. But there are a couple of rules. You can’t go more than two or three times, if it’s consecutive, if you’re drinking a lot of water, without flushing. But if you have coffee or something, it’s going down.”

Of course, people remain shocked to the whole concept of conserving water in the bathroom with this method — but it’s great to see Diaz sharing anyways. Have a look at the video after the jump below!

Celebrities came out in force over the weekend to celebrate the Natural Resources Defence Council’s 20th Anniversary Gala Celebration. The event was hosted by Julia Louis-Dreyfus and took place at the Beverly Wilshire. Hitting the red carpet were Leonardo DiCaprio, Cameron Diaz, Amy Smart, Chelsea Handler, Heather Graham, Jon Hamm, and many more. Check out photos from the carpet below!

Kids can join DiCaprio to help better the environment by pledging on www.nick.com/biggreenhelp. On Earth Day (April 22, 9 p.m. ET/PT), Nickelodeon will “Power Down” for 60-seconds, celebrating the nearly two million kid-pledges to-date, and symbolizing kids’ commitments to be more environmentally conscious. On-screen messaging will ask kids to simultaneously turn off their lights and unplug their gadgets and devices signaling their year-long promise to engage in real-world environmental action. When they power back up, kids can go online and find real-world tactics they can take to help the environment.

The Kids’ Choice Awards are a pretty big event, so Leo will have plenty of young minds to reach with a message of environmental stewardship. It’s great to see the network honoring his work and giving him the stage to chat a moment about his activism. Let’s hope he doesn’t get slimed in the process.
