Chrissie Hynde and Phil Collins are just two of the many famous faces participating in the Celebrity Paws auction — a campaign to raise money for the rescue group Cats Protection.

Cats Protection is the UK’s leading cat welfare charity and helps 193,000 cats and kittens each year through a national network of 253 volunteer-run branches and 29 adoption centers.

Celebrities were asked to draw around their hand, sign it, and style it in their own unique way.  Starting today those drawings will be available on eBay and will go towards building a new Homing Centre in Ferndown, Dorset, which will make it simpler and easier for the public to adopt cats.

Rock legend Chrissie Hynde, a passionate vegan and animal rights activist, is hooking up with PETA to launch a new campaign against McDonald’s. Using the fast food chain’s popular “i’m lovin’ it” slogan — Hynde’s has created a new parody ad unsurprisingly titled “i’m hatin’ it”.

“McDonald’s means McCruelty as far as I’m concerned,” said Hynde. The rock star is also using her stage as a platform to urge a McDonald’s boycott and will toss “i’m hatin’ it” shirts to her audience. PETA expects the new ad campaign to start hitting billboards around the U.S. shortly.

Chrissie Hynde of the rock group The Pretenders is making plans to expand her vegan-restaurant empire with potential interest in NY’s new Freedom Tower. The development, currently under construction on the site of the World Trade Center, is looking for interested restaurant owners. In an interview with PETA, Hynde said how the success of her vegan hotspot Vegeterrannean is causing her to eye new locations. Here’s a highlight (emphasis in bold is mine):

“I’d like to expand to Las Vegas so tourists from all over the world can see how great vegan food can be,” she said, “and of course in LA I’ve read that Freedom Tower in New York City, the new development where the World Trade Center once stood, is looking for a notable restaurateur. I’d like to throw my hat into the ring. There’s been so much horrific blood and guts and violence there that it’d be fitting to open a cool restaurant where no mangled, burnt bodies are on the menu.”

Um, yea. Look, I’m all for more vegan restaurants, but comments like that are not going to win points. I don’t know if she intended it to come across that way, but talk about poor taste.

After performing at the Rio De Janeiro leg of Live Earth, rocker Lenny Kravitz almost decided not to come home. The musician planned on staying for a week, but ended up living for four months on a remote farm. Said Kravitz, “There was no stress, less time spent on decisions. Pink may have led the media blitz, but musician Chrissie Hynde led the rally for a PETA protest in Central Park to encourage tourists not to support the carriage-horse industry. “I got hitched to Jim Kerr (Simple Minds) in a horse drawn carriage in New York. Finally, this is not green — but I found it hilarious. Comedian Sarah Silverman gave significant other Jimmy Kimmel a video-gift for the 5-year anniversary of his Jimmy Kimmel Live show.
