Dave Matthews took some time out to plant three trees on Sunday in the Avenue Nueve de Julio of the city of Sao Paulo while on tour in Brazil.

The Dave Matthews Band finishes up their Summer Tour on Sunday, October 3rd in Argentina. The past few months saw another successful “green” tour in partnership with organizations like Music Matters and Reverb to reduce the impact of the band and its fans. You can check out some of the initiatives undertaken this summer at DMB’s Reverb page here.

Peace-Loving Singer Ringo Starr Endorses J Gerard’s Eco-Chic Designs

Filed under: green and famous — parrish @ 2:36 pm

Looks like today is just a Beatles kind of day!  Earlier this afternoon Ecorazzi reported that Paul McCartney faced a leathery situation while staying at a Texas hotel on his road trip across America. In other green news, it’s just been announced that ex-Beatle, Ringo Star, is endorsing designer J Gerard as his go-to designer for Peace Couture & “peace gear.”

Ringo is all about the peace issue and even wanted his birthday to officially be known as “Peace and Love Day”, so it’s no surprise that he’s endorsing a designer with some eco-suave taste.  J Gerard is known for her green stance and was one of the very first designers to create fashion in bamboo fabrics and to use corn with organic cotton. I LIKE!

Ringo isn’t the only celeb to wear J Gerard, Miranda Lambert wore the designer during her performance at this year’s ACM Awards and then walked away with the album of the year. Coincidence? I THINK NOT! Other stars include CHER, B-52’s Kate Pierson, Prince, Patti Smith, Sheila E, Dave Matthews, Angelina Jolie, Miley Cyrus, Bob Dylan and the cast of HBO’s Entourage.

Alanis Morissette, John Mayer, and Others Sing for Tibet

Filed under: campaigns, music, politics — erinnuallain @ 11:33 am

Several famous voices are sounding out for a new project simply entitled “Songs for Tibet”.

Moby, John Mayer, Sting, Alanis Morissette, Dave Matthews, and Suzanne Vega all lend their talent to the album which is due for global release on iTunes on August 5. That is a mere three days before the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics.

“This album will focus people’s attention on the importance of Tibet, the gifts of its culture, and the crisis the Tibetan people are facing today,” said one of the album’s organizers and member of The Art of Peace Foundation, Michael Wohl.

Many in Tibet, as well as the Dalai Lama who fled his homeland, say its people have suffered widespread political, cultural and religious repression under the forced Chinese rule since 1951. Protests in Tibet against Chinese rule erupted in March, and China was condemned internationally for its ensuing security crackdown that Tibetan exiles said left more than 200 people dead.

It isn’t only the people that are affected by the current status of Tibet either. According to savetibet.org: “The high plains, forests and mountains of Tibet are home to rare and endangered wildlife such as the snow leopard, blue sheep and Tibetan antelope (chiru). Due to extensive resource extraction, poaching and unsustainable development, these ecosystems and many of their species are now endangered.”

“The forced settlement of nomads is wiping out a unique way of life, increasing poverty and contributing to grassland degradation.”

Mellencamp, Young to Perform at Farm Aid ‘08

Filed under: events, music — sara @ 1:35 pm

What’s better than 22 years of concerts to help promote local farming? How about a first-ever Farm Aid in New England?

John Mellencamp is announcing that this year’s Farm Aid will be held at the Comcast Center in Mansfield on September 20th. The lineup will include Mellencamp as well as Dave Matthews, Neil Young, and of course, Willie Nelson.

So many people associate local produce being restricted to the Midwest or certain isolated farming communities, and by highlighting that yes, you can get apples and potatoes in Boston from someone other than a frothing, genetically-engineered conglomerate, they’ll be both shining a much-needed light on local purchasing power as well as creating a larger sense of community. Bonus!

Robbie Adrian Organic Blankets Nab Celeb Baby Following

Dave Matthews, Halle Berry cozy up

Filed under: babies and bumps — michael @ 6:51 pm

robbie.jpgThe organic baby revolution continues with stylish, beautiful 100% all-natural blankets from Robbie Adrian. The company was founded after the owners had difficulty finding baby products that were both environmentally-friendly and stylish — something that’s becoming increasingly less of an issue these days. But, jumping into the scene early, their fashionable organic blankets are now receiving a steady following from some of the biggest names in entertainment.

Halle Berry, Dave Matthews, and Sheryl Crow are only some of the celebs wrapping up tots in these chic blankets. Since Berry has decided to go “green” with her nusery, she’s received a bunch of fleece chocolate, natural and eucalyptus blankets for her upcoming baby shower. Dave Matthew’s son, Oliver, received the Velour Nursery Ocean Blue organic and silk blanket, while Sheryl Crow’s son Wyatt picked up a gift box. In addition, Robbie Adrian donated one of their largest blankets, in Crow’s name, to a children’s home she supports - The Delta Children’s Home in Missouri.

We’re always happy to support new companies making a difference for the planet and healthier living. We wish Robbie Adrian all the best in expanding their business and getting more babies swaddled in green. Hit their official site here for more.
