On Thursday, December 4th, Beckham spent the evening with KidsCan — a charity dedicated to meeting the basic physical needs of financially disadvantaged children, leveling the playing field for them so they have the chance to reach their full potential. Not only did he attend the event, but he also paid $9,000 for a print of Barack Obama during the auction portion and donated it right back to the auction.

Then on the Saturday, Decemeber 6th, Beckham participated in a game to benefit the New Zealand Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Furthermore, the warm-up match benefited New Zealand-based charities such as KidsCan and Find Your Field of Dreams – a new charity set up by athlete John Walker to make a positive impact the lives of young people in South Auckland by providing them with opportunities to live healthy, active lifestyles and pursue a positive pathway through sport and recreation.

JEEZ! That’s a whole lot of charity awesomeness. Even though we’d like to see Beckham get a little greener, we most certainly appreciate all those good deeds. Keep up the good work!

“I’m sick as a pig. It’s a formidable shame. It is to Walthamstow what the Eiffel Tower is to Paris,” said owner Barrie Clegg. Yeah, well–does the Eiffel Tower account for overbreeding, dogs running until they are sick or being caged or euthanized because they’re not fast enough? I sincerely doubt it.

Past celeb visitors, such as Lana Turner and Brad Pitt, as well as David Beckham, who worked at the stadium as a teenager, might be sad to see it go (or might not). I, for one, am hoping it’s one step closer to ending greyhound racing for good.

BZI has produced 100% EcoSpun (post-consumer recycled soda bottles) lanyards, biodegradable sport bottles, and sustainable bamboo/charcoal apparel for the behind-the-scenes and celebrity crew of the show. Host Justin Timberlake and presenters Lance Armstrong and David Beckham, along with more of the world’s biggest athletes and celebs, will receive the goodies. BZI even provided bicycle shirts for the ESPY bartenders, whose mixing and blending activities will be powered by bicycle. What message that sends about biking under the influence is unclear, but who wouldn’t want to enjoy a freshly-pedaled margarita?

The ESPY Awards take place tonight and will be televised on ESPN and ESPN HD July 20, 2008, at 9 p.m./ET.

All across the board we’re seeing celebs (as well as some of pretty awesome “common” folk) set a new standard for eco-living. But of course not EVERYONE is getting on the green train. In fact some famous faces are staying away from it completely. The Chicago Tribune recently posted their top 8 LEAST green celebrities and I bet you won’t believe who’s on the list!!

Counting down…

8. Bill Gates- While this guy does a lot for charity (which we love), it’s estimated that his global impact is 10,000 greater than the average person. WTF?

7. David and Victoria Beckham- We totally called this one! Last year, David flew more than 250,000 miles, is the owner of 15 cars and owns several homes. Add that all together, and he created about 18 times more carbon dioxide than the average person.

6. Madonna- Jeez! We called this one as well! Water bottles aside, in the past year she has created more than 1,000 tons of carbon dioxide!

5. John Travolta- John Travolta owns five planes, including a Boeing 707 complete with multiple dining rooms, and it’s estimated he has an annual carbon footprint that’s about 100 times more than the average person.

Hungry for more? To see the rest of the list scoot on over to chicagotribune.com. The remaining four might surprise you. I’ll give one clue — we DEFINITELY predicted number one!

While the Ecorazzi team may not agree with the size of Davd Beckham’s global footprint, we sure are supportive of his “UNICEF Ambassador” title and the work he does for charity. And today David Beckham continued that work by spending some time visitng young leukemia patients at Xinhua hospital in Shanghai, China.

It seems that the trip was a success, despite the fact that “one woman screamed hysterically as angry police refused to allow her inside, as organizers were soon forced to cancel a donation ceremony scheduled to take place outside the hospital.”

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone to Xinhua hospital and had that exact same experience. David, I can totally relate!

Last year about this time, the Beckhams were named the most environmentally unfriendly couple. Now, David alone has a new honor to add to his resume:

Last year about this time, the Beckhams were named the most environmentally unfriendly couple. Now, David alone has a new honor to add to his resume:

Largest Carbon Footprint In Human History!

For those playing along at home, you should imagine your best ‘God’ voice when saying that. Trust me.

According to Carbon Trust, Beckham’s extensive air travel for matches and endorsement obligations, along with his fleet of cars and homes have all added up to record numbers. From the article,

“The former England captain logged over 250,000 miles last year as he flew back and forth between the U.S. and Europe for England’s European Championship qualifiers, while also participating in a Galaxy tour of Oceania in the latter part of the year. Beckham and his wife Victoria also collected over 50,000 frequent flyer miles for advertising obligations around the globe. At home, Beckham owns a fleet of 15 cars, including a Porsche, a Hummer and a Lincoln Navigator.”

This all adds up to about 163 tons of carbon dioxide yearly. To put that in perspective, the average Englishman contributes about 9.4 tons. The average American generates about 7.8 tons. Said a Carbon Trust spokesperson, “With all his money he should be using it at least to reduce his own footprint. He has more freedom of choice when it comes to methods of traveling. He could also choose greener cars.”

Or how about just f–king sit still?! Damn — we should tie this guy down lilliputian-style and do the world a favor. Let’s hope we’re not writing about any new records this time next year. Who knew talented feet could have such massive footprints?

Ever say to yourself, “Gosh I could totally use my own island?” Well if you’re Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie the thought has more than crossed your mind. It’s been reported that the famous duo just bought one of the exclusive islands that make up the super-development, The World In Dubai.

The World, is located just off the coast of Dubai and was developed by state-owned developer, Nakheel. Although no official reports have been announced, it’s rumored that other celebrities such as David Beckham, Richard Branson and Rod Stewart have also purchased islands.

Have no fear, the eco-aware power couple don’t plan on simply using the island for pina-colada, eighties themed reggae parties. Pitt and Jolie have both declared that they are going to use their new chunk of land to spotlight environmental issues and to promote a greener lifestyle.

Following in their famous footsteps, I too will be promoting a greener lifestyle by dreaming about purchasing my own island…where I WILL be having pina-colada, eighties themed reggae parties.
