Knight Rider, the modern bastardization of the beloved 80’s David Hasselhoff series, is going green for NBC’s “Green Is Universal” week. We already know that the current KITT (voiced by none other than Val Kilmer) sports some solar panels and is based on the Ford Mustang. Beyond that, producers were rather vague as to any of the “fuel-efficient” qualities the next-generation vehicle could boast. This was pretty disappointing — especially when the 80’s car used liquid hydrogen in a turbine engine that got 100 MPG. Seriously. Wikipedia doesn’t lie.

It looks like Wednesday night, however, we might see a new fuel-efficient KITT hit the road. Here’s the preview from NBC:

The government dispatches a green consultant to the SSC, in order to evaluate the KITT Cave’s carbon deficiency. The consultant turns out to have had a history with Graiman. She also challenges Graiman to defend and explain KITT’s “green” status, and Graiman reveals the next generation of KITT.

Might we see another hydrogen-powered KITT? How about we drop the Mustang and go with an all-electric Fisker Karma?
