Deja Vu: Letterman Does Lame Electrocution Joke With Chevy Volt

We had high hopes that David Letterman would not grip the steering wheel of the concept Chevy Volt all-electric vehicle and pretend to be electrocuted. The Late Night host did a similar stunt a few weeks back with the Tesla Roadster and it was less than funny. Unfortunately, with GM’s Bob Lutz standing by, Letterman did just that as he was shown the car last night on the show. All I can say is, thank God for Jay Leno.

That aside, it was good to see Lutz giving Letterman some good facts on the Volt — something the host failed at badly while bashing the car on the earlier program. The only real bummer is that we probably won’t get a crack at actually owning one until early 2012. Check out the video below:

CounterPunch: Bob Lutz To Bring Chevy Volt To Letterman Next Week

After openly mocking General Motor’s Chevy Volt vehicle a few weeks back with a string of innacurate comments, David Letterman is getting ready for a counter-offensive from Bob Lutz. The former vice-Chairman of GM will be on the show next Wednesday night to refute Letterman’s claims and show off a (hopefully updated) version of the Volt.

During the earlier interview with Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Letterman lashed out at the Volt saying, “The VOLT has a range of 40 miles,” Letterman said. “That will get you down the driveway and back. I mean, it’s insane. 40 miles is the range of the VOLT. That’s ridiculous.” In reality, the Volt has a range extender on-board that will boost that distance to more than a couple hundred. Not to mention the fact that 40 miles is more than enough for the average American’s commute to work and back.

Of course, Letterman may be a bit biased towards the Tesla. According to RemyC, the host has an all-electric Roadster which he drives to work from New Canaan, Connecticut to Manhattan every week.

With General Motors teetering on the brink of bankruptcy, it will be interesting to hear from Lutz on what the future of the Chevy Volt is — and if the current bad news might delay its 2010 launch. Fingers crossed. Oh — and Dave? Please don’t feign electrocution this time when you grab the steering wheel.

David Letterman Pretends To Electrocute Himself With Tesla Model S

Electric cars had the spotlight on The David Letterman show last night — with the CEO of Telsa Motors Elon Musk in the hot seat and his new Tesla Model S on display.

Letterman was in rare form, going on a bit of tirade against hydrogen fuel cell technology — but reserving even more angst for the electric Chevy VOLT. “The VOLT has a range of 40 miles,” Letterman said. “That will get you down the driveway and back. I mean, it’s insane. 40 miles is the range of the VOLT. That’s ridiculous.” Actually Dave, not all of us have 20-mile driveways — and 40 miles would suffice for the commute of a majority of Americans. Not to mention he forgot about the range-extender that turns on after 40 miles to give you a couple hundred miles extra. Poor criticism.

Anyways, after the interview, Dave had the new Tesla Model S cruise out on stage — and then, well, went a little batshit crazy. It’s embarrassing, to say the least. Fast-forward to 9:43 to see.

Ira Glass Tells David Letterman How He Became A Vegetarian

Everyone has a cause that they’re passionate about — and as Ira Glass, host of This American Life on NPR, told David Letterman last night, one woman’s mission inspired him to become vegetarian. That woman, Karen Davis, is the president of United Poulty Concerns — a a nonprofit organization dedicated to the compassionate and respectful treatment of domestic fowl. Every year, she organized people to write in to This American Life and complain about their annual “Chicken Poultry Slam” series (a play on Poetry Slam) that would tell stories about eating chickens and turkeys around the holidays.

She urged Glass to come visit her farm and see just how much personalities chickens have. And he did — and became a vegetarian. Check out the great video below of Ira on The David Letterman Show.

David Letterman On Global Warming: “We’re Dead Meat”

David Letterman recently hosted author Thomas Friedman who was promoting his book on Climate Change Hot, Flat, and Crowded: Why we need a green revolution–And how it can renew America. Dave had a lot to say about the topic and worked himself into a full rant, which called for alternative forms of energy and blamed the Republicans for their lack of leadership. Though Friedman’s book is flavored with hope and calls for a revolution, Letterman says we’re “too late” and “dead meat”. Watch the video below to see him go off as only he can.

The WE Campaign has produced several television ads featuring notables such as the Reverend Al Sharpton and Pat Robertson putting aside their differences and coming together to fight climate change. Like everything else that’s fair game in the world of PSAs, it was only a matter of time before someone decided to spoof the concept.

Enter Billy Crystal and David Letterman sitting on a beach and discussing their differences. Let’s just say that it doesn’t end up working out in the end — especially when it comes to paying for sex.
