Razzi Snap: X-Files DVD Pulls Back Curtain On Green Production

Filed under: donations, green and famous, music — Michael Andre d'Estries @ 11:06 am

xfiles_greenI haven’t seent the new X-Files flick — I Want To Believe — mainly because I heard it was a pretty bad film. However, some folks have scooped up the DVD and are reporting that there’s a fairly in-depth bonus feature on how the producers took the production green. Said one tipster Amy, “Apparently, it was very important to the creator, Chris Carter, to do that–everything from using green generators, hybrids for all transpo, biodegradable utensils, etc. He narrates the segment and it’s great to see!” Damnit, now I might have to Netflix it. Grammy-winning singer Rihanna is set to rock the stage at the Recording Industry Association of America’s Presidential Inauguration Charity Ball on January 20. The event will help raise millions for this season’s charity rockstar, Feeding America.

Remember that used tissue that Scarlett Johansson was auctioning off on behalf of USA Harvest, a hunger-relief organization? Yea, well it just sold for $5,300! If we’re to believe one of our commenters, that one tissue will probably generate an insane amount of Johansson clones. That’s fine by me. [Read more...]

Actor David Spade recently surprised the Phoenix Police Department with a donation of $100,000. Will this money go towards funding programs to help with poverty or drug rehabilitation? Nope. It will buy about 50 high-powered rifles. Spade, a Phoenix native, provided the money to a non-profit police foundation after seeing a jarring television news report about gun violence. The unfortunate reality is that criminals often have better weapons than officers. So, he’s hoping to level the field with this donation. Oh, and I’m scratching Phoenix off of my “places to live”. David Spade Saves Hometown Humane Society With Cash Donation

Filed under: animals, green and famous — lori @ 7:13 am

Actor David Spade has quietly donated $10,000 to the Humane Society in his hometown Lakeside, AZ.  The Humane Society of White Mountains was having  financial struggles, as so many non-profits do, when David’s family let him know about the funding needs of the animal shelter.  His mom lives in Lakeside as does his brother Brian, a contractor who will be donating his time to help with shelter building projects.   David’s generous donation will go towards improvements on an outside exercise area for the dogs.

A Spade autographed T-shirt will be auctioned off at their annual fundraiser.  Way to support your four legged friends David - well done!

Brad Pitt Updates Media On Make It Right Donations

Will Ferrell, David Spade, Lawrence Fishburne chip in support...

I caught Brad Pitt chatting with Larry King on CNN last night and was encouraged to a.) see him continuing to plug his “Make It Right” campaign for the rebuilding of New Orleans’ devastated Ninth Ward and b.) moved by the donations received since the project was announced a few weeks back.

These families are certainly going to have much to celebrate in the New Year.

According to Pitt, over 12,000 people across America have donated various amounts to the campaign. They even received an anonymous $1 million donation this past Thursday. Actors like Will Ferrell, David Spade, and Lawrence Fishburne have all contributed; with Ferrell sponsoring an entire home. “Our initial goal was 150 houses,” said Pitt. “And we’ve got 52 houses that have been adopted, which means 52 families.” From an interview yesterday on the TODAY show,

“It’s working. It’s really working,” Pitt said. “It’s that thing we talked about of people coming together and people helping people, and that’s where America’s great.”

The fundraising campaign will end next month. “We got two more weeks to go,” Pitt said. “I need people out there to come in and adopt the other 100 homes. And hopefully by that time we’ll see this whole neighborhood symbolically put back together.”

Pitt also revealed that his family will be spending Christmas in New Orleans; though he was reluctant to confirm that for one reason. “I really hope the paparazzi don’t show up,” he joked.

If you would like to contribute an amount this holiday season to the families of the 9th Ward, please hit the Make It Right NOLA site here. Even $5 will make a difference.
