About her activism, Najimy has said: “I think I became an animal rights activist for two reasons. One is that my best friend, the one that has lived with me and loved me the longest… is my dog Al Finney. Someone told me once that animals don’t have hearts and souls…Well ,if that is true, then I have loved and been madly loved, and comforted by a stuffed animal for the last 15 years.”

Wearing 4-inch heels and decked in designer buckskins, entertainer Dolly Parton helped re-introduce a bald eagle into the wild yesterday. The eagle was blown from its nest several weeks ago in Florida and was subsequently rescued by the American Eagle Foundation.

The organization has its headquarters within the Dollywood theme park which includes a 1.5-million-cubic-foot Eagle Mountain Sanctuary and its Wings of America bird of prey show. The theme park recently donated an additional $250,000 to AEF to support facility upgrades and new programs. From the article,

“The eagle release event also included an update on the United States Mint commemorative eagle coin program that is currently raising money for the AEF’s eagle projects. Only 2-months into the year-long marketing effort, surcharges from sales of the gold, silver and clad coins have already raised over $5 million for the non-profit conservation group. This attractive half-dollar coin can be purchased for $10.95 (proof) and $8.95 (uncirculated). Three dollars from each unit sold actually benefits the bald eagle.”

Great work by Dolly — and wonderful that her theme park also includes a home for such a beneficial organization. By the way, Parton decided to name the eagle “Liberty” because as she added, “”I thought that sounded better than Baldy.”

On Saturday, March 29th at 8pm, millions of people, buildings and landmarks around the world will turn off their lights for one hour – otherwise know as “Earth Hour“. The effort is meant to show that the world can come together to make a difference in the fight against climate change. From the Sears Tower to the Golden Gate Bridge to the Sydney Opera House, familiar landmarks in some way will be going dark to show support. There’s even word that The Weather Channel HQ in Atlanta will be turning off all non-essential lighting on their building as well as promoting Earth Hour on their program Forecast Earth. Who wants to bet former founder John Coleman is going to lose it?

Obviously, we’ve got some great star power behind this event as well. Pete Wentz from Fall Out Boy, actresses Cate Blanchett and Nicole Kidman, Dolly Parton, Blake Lewis, Menudo, Lonestar, and many others. In Canada Nelly Furtado is even giving a free concert. To date, 25 cities around the globe have been designated by World Wildlife Fund as official Earth Hour flagship cities, including Atlanta, Chicago, Phoenix and San Francisco in the United States.

Well this week, Dolly Parton upped the ante on celebrity gift giving by donating her breasts to her fans!!! That’s right folks, now WE own them! She’s named the twins “shock and awe” (which is coincidently my little nickname for that other set of famous twins: the Olsens) No word yet on which is which…they’re identical so it’s hard to tell them apart.

Dolly insists it’s her tah-tahs that deserve credit for boosting her career and said, ”They do seem like public property in a way. They served me well – I don’t know if I’m supporting them or they’re supporting me.” She continued, “I’ve always had nice ones, but of course I’ve had ‘em jacked up a bit. And they’re part of the persona – it always takes a little pressure off me.”

That’s funny, comparing the weight and girth of her fun bags to the weight and girth of the rest of her body, I would assume, if anything, it’s puts the pressure ON her. Oh well. Not only is this gift super generous (how many times has someone given you anatomy?), but it’s also completely waste-free AND eco-sensitive.
